Hi! Got a question for parents whose children have had braces. My DD has braces (been on for 8 months now) and her gums have grown in response to the braces. Some small teeth are barely visible because the gums have overgrown. It’s not painful, hasn’t necessarily swollen, they’ve just grown. Wondering if anyone had any similar experiences and advice, and whether the gums go back to normal. Its like the gums have gone fat and the teeth are much smaller now!

I have/had 2 with braces and never noticed this.

Has she had a dental check up lately to make sure her gums are healthy? One of my kids had inflamed gums for awhile as he just couldn't (or wouldn't) clean well enough with the braces on.

On the other hand, she could have suffered receding gums in the past, especially if she had crooked teeth which were trapping food, and her teeth straightening out is resolving that problem and the gums are growing back to where they should be.

Either way I think a check by a dentist is a good idea.

No both my DDs had braces and this didn’t happen.
