Which shampoo for ds dandruff?

MissyB1 · 03/08/2021 19:10

My 13 year old ds has dandruff which comes and goes but is quite bad at the moment. He’s been using body shop ginger shampoo for about a year now. It seems to have stopped working Sad
I think he’s very hormonal at the moment as he has shot up in height and his skin is breaking out too, would this be affecting his hair and scalp?
Any recommendations for shampoo please?

Standard Head and Shoulders sorts out all the males in this house

MissyB1 · 03/08/2021 19:22

I have a feeling we tried head and shoulders before the body shop one, it didn’t seem to work. We could try again I suppose 🤔

Vosene smells bad but does the trick here. Head and Shoulders only works for DH.

MonkeyPuddle · 03/08/2021 19:29

DP uses T gel for his, he gets dandruff every few months and this does the trick in one or two washes.

MissyB1 · 03/08/2021 19:32

Yes Dh has some Tgel I’m going to try it on ds tonight. I could do with a good every day shampoo for him though.

Nizoral. It comes in a small bottle and it a vibrant pink colour, but does the job. Once its cleared, then just use head and shoulders, then the nizoral for any flare ups.

I remember Vosene from when I was a kid! Great smell!

Ah yes Nizoral must be an anti fungal? Sounds like one. That could be an option.

Nizoral! It’s the best!

Heartofglass12345 · 03/08/2021 19:39

I use oilatum shampoo for my son as he has quite big flakes coming off his scalp sometimes.
Isn't washing it every day going to make it worse though?

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 03/08/2021 19:43

Nothing works as well or as quickly as Nizoral in my experience. It's a tiny bottle but then you only need the tiniest amount each time you use it so it lasts longer than you'd think.

BunnyRuddington · 03/08/2021 19:46

Try Neutrogena Sensitive Scalp. It's the only one which we've found to ease the itching and stop the dandruff.

BunnyRuddington · 03/08/2021 19:47

And the sensitive scalp version doesn't have the same strong smell as the regular t-gel.

Franticbutterfly · 03/08/2021 19:56

When mine get dandruff I don't just make them
Use head and shoulders, I make them wash their hair more often (daily is best) and dry it with a hairdryer. I think it's stops the fungus that causes certain types of dandruff. It works anyway.

Premier12 · 03/08/2021 19:57

Nizoral

MissyB1 · 03/08/2021 20:08

If he leaves it for a few days without washing it gets worse unfortunately.
I do think he might have a sensitive scalp as he also has eczema. The neutrogena sensitive scalp could be a good shout. I will look up the oilatum one as well.

DD had full on cradle cap and it's very common when hitting puberty. She had really long hair so it didn't get washed more than a couple of times a week and I picked off a lot of the cradle cap. You could leave his hair for a fee days and look at his scalp then.

You could try massaging aloe gel into the scalp and then washing, it's good at breaking down oil if you slap on enough so could be good to help clear the scalp.

G121 · 08/08/2021 07:27

I have used T-Gel and there is a tea tree dry scalp shampoo I used from Amazon that worked too. Unfortunately that stopped working after about a year.

Now I use Phillip Kingsley anti dandruff shampoo. It's expensive, but it has worked and I would recommend it.

cliffdiver · 08/08/2021 07:33

Aveeno do a shampoo and conditioner, it worked wonders on DD's hair.

SapatSea · 09/08/2021 19:10

Alphosyl or Nizoral

MissyB1 · 09/08/2021 19:13
