My ds has “man boobs”. He is overweight but is more sticky than fat. He’s broad and tall. He goes to the gym 3-4 week with me and eats healthy ish. But Iv noticed his breasts have grown abit. It’s became really obvious. I don’t know what to do? I haven’t said anything to him but he’s due to start secondary in September and I don’t want him to be bullied 😩

What is sticky?

StealthRoast · 25/07/2021 07:02

I presume op means stocky.

He’s only 11 so it may just be puppy fat which will likely disappear when he hits puberty and shoots up. Other than that, encourage healthy eating and being active, which tbh it already sound like you’re doing.

If you’re worried that it’s actual breast tissue rather than just a bit of puppy fat then maybe an appointment to the gp would be a good starting point.

Only you can say if its fat or breast tissue. Are you sure he is stocky rather than fat? Parents tend to be a bit blind in this area, if it is breast tissue send him to the Doctors if it is fat look up exercises to target that area.

OP ensure he is not ingesting anything with aspartame in it. It can have this effect—seen it more than once. The chaps kicked the aspartame and the manboobs disappeared.

GP. This is super-common in pubescent boys and nothing to worry about but, of course, you should check with your own GP, as you only have my word for it that I'm a doctor. If your practice does e-consult (it will say on their website), you could use that to ask.
