Just 🤯

I’ve posted about this before in teens. I’m trying to get my son motivated to do something this summer. He has had low mood in and off throughout the pandemic, disengaging with school, worried about exams, extremely bad tempered, isolating himself in his room. He is into anime and obsessively reads/watches it all.

He bounced back a little at the end of term, meeting up with friends, having friends over and I thought things were improving. I said to him I wanted him to do something this summer- job, volunteeer or skills based course that we would pay for him to do. He’s very determined and I know if I suggest anything he will choose not to do it just because he hates me being right Hmm

However then he caught Covid. So we’ve had to isolate him in the house. He’s been on his own in his room for 10 days with unlimited screens. He has no self control when it comes to this stuff and admitted to staying up until 4am. Then if course he’s even more hellish the following day. We were out of isolation yesterday and the most I managed was getting him to sit in the garden. He did eat with us.

I’ve just been to wake him up and he is very grumpy so god knows what time he turned off at.

Covid is everywhere here and a lot of his friends are isolating.

Any advice! I wouldn’t mind him relaxing this summer if he met up with friends/less screens/seemed in a healthier mood. But all this anime stuff worries me. We’ve got parental controls on the WiFi and he tells about the plots which are a bit dark but nothing too bad.

Any advice?

He's 16. Tell him he needs to get a part time job or you won't be paying for things for him. Don't facilitate this behaviour
