Teens aged 13 and 15 - anyone got a Santander current account and debit card

My kids are 13 and 15 and I would like to get them each a current account. I saw that Santander do one - has anyone got this for their kids and do you recommend it? I’d like the kids to be able to see what money they have on an app, use contactless, chip and pin and hook it up to apple pay so they could use their phones as money.
Thanks for any advice

DD2 is 15 and she has one.

I did try for our bank but the process was so long winded without going into branch I gave up. Was really impressed how quickly they set everything up.

She has a chip & pin card, app is really easy to use. Not used apple pay as she only has a 7 and not sure it works on a 7.

But yes, quick, efficient and would recommend

*sorry she has contact less debit card

My 18yo and 15yo both have them.
18yo set his up a few years ago, online application. Has all the things you mention although he has an android phone (15yo has apple).
15yo set his up with 18yos help.
I wasn't involved in either.

My two DDs have had them for years and have been happy. My older DD had it through some of secondary school then sixth form, then converted into a student account at Uni, and now has graduated and is converting to a full current account.

Both my dc's have one as well. Ds got his age 11 (now age 14) and I switched dd (now 17) from a different bank at the same time as him to get the better interest rate. Contactless cards and an app included

I use Starling for mine, I have a main account and DS’ have their own account with a card and they have now also introduced an app specifically so that they can see how much money they have available.
You can set everything up in the app, it’s dead easy!

Mine have similar accounts. DD 14 has a debit card and online banking to check accounts etc. Also has a savings account associated with it. Useful for her if going out with friends or shopping, etc. DS’s (10) is just the savings account with a paying in book which will convert to the account with a debit card when 11.

DS 15 has one and it works very well. Had no issues opening and runs well.
However by time of opening one for DD 12, they wouldn't let us as we don't have an account with them, so she ended up with a Halifax one.

We have the Nationwide one it’s fine good app and so on.

Yes my daughter age 15 has it and my son will soon I just need to open his. No problems and easy to use etc

StuntNun · 05/07/2021 11:11

My 18yo and 15yo have had them for a while and they have had no problems. I would definitely recommend the account.

'currently' awaiting dd's both finalised after applying online. Very easy to apply.
Dc's bc and your own driving licence..

oldwhyno · 05/07/2021 11:19

yes, 12yr old has one so she can spend her own damn money on bubble tea!

30degreesandmeltinghere · 07/07/2021 16:01

Apparently my application is stalled because dd's don't have the same surname as me.
