Chiding which parent to live with

Does anyone know what age a child can choose which parent to live with?

Current situation is 50/50 care. My son wants to live with me he is aged 15. It's not going to go down well with the ex and he will try and block this as much as he can.

Am I right in thinking he'd have to go to court and it would be pointless as he would be almost 16 at that point?

He doesn't like his dad for various reasons mainly being he is emotionally abusive Sad (he would never admit to this as it's all behind closed doors)

They say 12 is when childrens’ opinions are given consideration. At 15 he can pretty much do as he pleases. You’re correct in thinking you’d be waiting a year at least before a court hearing by which point your son will be 16 and it really does become irrelevant what court orders are in place.
