Did your awful teen become a lovely adult?

I'm clashing with DS1 who is 16 on a daily basis.

He is rude, dismissive, superior and ungrateful. All his friends parents are apparently less strict, more rich and generally more preferable to us.

Standard teen behaviour I realise.

Just wanted to hear if any of you had trying teenagers that turned into gorgeous adults.

Give me hope!

My brother was a horrible in his early teens - arrogant, expecting everything to be about. But became lovely bloke by later teens and remained as such.

Good luck!

I was that teenager. Much worse than what you describe above. Now as an adult I'm utterly horrified by my behaviour, have a very close relationship with my parents, and do try to be a good considerate person now.

I was a little twat from around 14-18. I'm so so close to my mum now and do a lot for her (as she does for me!), I'm pretty sure she would say I'm a lovely person now.

Upsettingly for my mum, I didn't give her a ounce of trouble in my teen years . . . and was then an absolute cunt in my early twenties. If she'd killed me, there's not a jury in the land would've convicted her.

Yes!! 19 year old was pretty similar and we clashed constantly it was exhausting.

Now almost 20 lovely lad, job and moving out soon it all came good.
However now going through similar with his younger 16 year old brother. And I have 2 more lads 10&11 praying they are less of a nightmare tbh 19 year old moans about 16 year old constantly - memory is short clearly

My child was absolutely the child from hell from 14-18 , drink , drugs , expelled from school, arrested for all sorts (luckily never charged) is now my very best ally and best friend. I never gave up , but boy it was tougher than tough some days . Pick your battles is my only advice ! Good luck it's not forever

I am beyond proud of my siblings now.

I love them immensely.

Teen times were tense.

Soontobe60 · 12/06/2021 21:23

Both my girls were absolute nightmares as teens. Told me they hated me regularly and couldn’t wait to leave home. They’re both absolutely delightful now. (and quite apologetic for their behaviour)

I was a vile teenager, now a lovely adult 😁 I'd say probably 13-17 were the bad years. I was ok by the time I went to uni.

Thank you all - you have made me feel less despondent. I hope he follows the above pattern.

I wasn't exactly an angel myself when I was a teen but I do believe I am lovely now Wink

Key advice is picking my battles I guess.
