Can a 15 year old have a temporary summer job? Does anyone know which shops if yes ?

Bump!

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 08/06/2021 22:38

Yes, easily. Where I am (seaside town) kids work in B&Bs, cafes and restaurants as kitchen staff/servers, bars (as glass collectors), independent shops and all beach huts etc from 13 with permission from council and 14 without the need to ask.
Chains are usually 16+

We are a good 2.5 hour drive from the cost unfortunately

@cappuccinoandcats ah ok... but there are still cafes, restaurants, newsagents, dog walking, grass cutting, ironing, and the old favourite, child care... also works as a contraceptive Grin

I did lots of mothers help type jobs at that age. I’d love a responsible 15 year old to help me over the long summer holidays. Although I suspect you are nowhere near me as I am on the coast!

I don't think people would want a 15 year old boy to look after their children. I certainly wouldn't

Many hospitality establishments are desperate for front of house help at the moment- running meals out from the kitchen or clearing tables. Some notes through pub/ cafe/ restaurant doors is bound to get a phone call and a chat.

Lots of places need to cover their regular staff taking time off (e.g. because their children are off school) so any local business really. There is probably a restriction on the hours per week that a 15yo can work.
If he needs his NI number for them, you get that from HMRC.

Really depends where you are. None of the cafes, shops, bars, restaurants around here are staffed by 15 year olds. A few uni students maybe but not school age teens.
London has a high volume of older transient workers, as well as older students, as do some other cities.

You can work from 13/14 I think, unless the rules have changed. We had jobs in cafes, pubs and small stores from those ages. Pot washing, glass collecting, that kinda thing. Are there any small local pubs around? Sport arenas often hire teenagers, our local football and ice stadiums are always hiring.

Do you know any tradespeople? My 15 year old is doing a bit of labouring, fetching and carrying for a friend of ours.
