school uniform - smart

My son started school in Y7 dressed immaculate in uniform leaving the house with his shirt tucked in top button/tie done up. Lately he’s started to copy his friends and have his tie loose top button open. I’ve insisted that he complies with the school rules and he’s ended up with a uniform detention. How do others insist upon uniform, am I being strict and are other schools just a strict. I feel like there are other battles to be won.

I keep at my son about it but he still tries to wear white socks when it's black... small thing but so annoying. Just wear the right uniform... always get the 'but so and so wears this that and the other arguments' but I just say I don't care if your mate Dave is wearing a Tutu with pink leggings... this is the uniform and that's that.

DS just wears the top button undone but tie covering it, it doesn't get noticed. He finds it more comfortable and it is important that clothing is comfortable when they are wearing it all day. That's in the autumn and spring terms, luckily at his school they wear a polo in the summer term, a tie must be awful in summer.

He's old enough to learn about natural consequences and if he's at one of those obsessive super strict schools with logos on everything, he'll soon learn where the boundaries are. What he does with it is up to him - you can remind him, but you can't control what he does with his shirt and tie when he's at school.

I'm just glad my local secondary is mostly reasonable and its 6th form has no uniform at all. Good riddance to it.

Make sure he leaves the house in correct uniform, then you've done your bit.
If he gets detentions for not be correct then that's his choice.
