Dd won't go to school

I'm at my wits end here really worried for my dd. She's 15 (year 10) and refuses to go to school.

After a year of this we've changed schools at her request but day 2 today and she's refusing to go.

Last week she took an overdose. She's so unhappy. We've got a CAMHs meeting this week but I'm not holding out much hope as have heard they're hit or miss.

It's so awful seeing this once happy child wasting her life away in her room.

Did a particular incident or events cause her to be unhappy or is her unhappiness caused by her teen hormones?

Larryslockdownlunch · 27/04/2021 18:48

I'm sorry that you're going through this, I have no useful advice but I'm following for others advice as I'm in a similar situation with my DD (year 8)

What have her new school said? Does she have friends at the new school already? Or issshe going in knowing no one?

sampamsnan · 27/04/2021 19:27

No particular events but lockdown has really affected her. She does have one friend at the school but this hasn't seemed to help

This could have been me with my ds a year ago. CAMHS were beyond amazing before and through lockdown I couldn’t fault them. My ds had DBT and 1-1 therapy sessions. We tried some medication but he didn’t want it eventually. School were great and we managed to secure a part time timetable and slowly built up. Still not perfect but got my happy child back and school attendance is steadily getting back to full time. Keep the faith it will get better 😊

I'm sorry to hear this.
Does she spend time with you?
Could you get her to do some anxiety yoga with you whilst you wait for CAHMS appointment?

sampamsnan · 28/04/2021 07:43

@Amventure thank you for that, it definitely gives me hope. So pleased your son has turned a corner

Good luck.
I do Adrianne yoga for anxiety. It's like my medicine! It's a really short video on YouTube about 15/20 minutes. There are two. I like the breathing one and the calm breathing stays with me all day. Don't worry if you don't have a yoga Matt or correct clothes you really don't need them. All you need to do is show up and switch it on Thanks
