White lies- should I worry?

My 12yr old DD has started telling white lies about things which feel like they are slowly getting bigger. It's usually things like saying she's cleaned her teeth when she hasn't or putting things away etc.
I usually try to ignore it, but make it clear that I know she's not telling the truth, but without making it a big issue. My DH on the other hand, does the opposite; he escalates every little white lie into a massive row. This evening he ended up shouting at her "YOU'RE LYING TO ME!!!" because she said she'd had a wash when she obviously hadn't. We always end up arguing about it because I think that by over reacting in this way, he's just going to make her less inclined to tell us the truth and it's not helping to build trust with her.
He thinks that if she gets away with a little white lie then that will encourage her to tell bigger lies.
Am I doing the right thing or is DH the one with the right approach?

Your problem is your shouty dh,exerting himself upon a teenager over minutiae
He needs to pipe down,be supportive and not escalate trivia into a battle
He’s her dad he doesn’t need to grind her into submission

There is a work-around here, to avoid the need to lie and so remove the while issue.

If you already know the answer - don't phrase it as a question at all.

Not "Have you brushed your teeth?
Say "Go and brush you teeth now please" and be upstairs as you see her go and do it.

Not "Have you put X away?"
Say "By the time I come upstairs I expect you to have put X away"

Have you seen the prime tv movie 'The Lie' Shock

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/03/2021 02:49

That's a good film.

MinnieJackson · 24/03/2021 06:09

Ooh can you give me a synopsis of the film please @IHaveBrilloHair @TinkerPony

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/03/2021 06:17

I'm rubbish at doing that, but check it out on IMDB.

Lemoniesnicket · 24/03/2021 08:50

Lemoniesnicket, I can assure you, when she reaches puberty, you won't be able to get your out of the bathroom; her teeth will be pristine, hair and clothes perfect, teeth gleaming and she will smell wonderful.

'The Lie' looks interesting, Brillo. I might watch it on Amazon if I cannot sleep. Thanks.

MinnieJackson · 28/03/2021 04:29

Is it the one on prime about the teenage girl? I think I found the right one @TinkerPony @IHaveBrilloHair

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/03/2021 08:03

Yes.

TinkerPony · 31/03/2021 10:00

Yes that right did you watch. Massive twist in the tale.

drspouse · 31/03/2021 10:52

Mine are younger but I tend to say:
Have you tidied your room?
Yes
If I come upstairs will I find any teddies on the floor/food under the bed/clothes on the landing carpet?
Er.... rapid sound of child running back upstairs
