My ds is constantly spouting facts and arguing back when he is told he's wrong. This can be anything from politics, sports, items in the news. He asks ridiculous questions which make him look foolish in front of people. He does this in front of family/friends who must wonder what on earth is going on. He just doesn't think before he speaks. Sometimes when he's challenged he says it was just a joke. Any ideas how to deal with this sort of behaviour? It's getting worrying now.

I think most of us have known a teenage know-it-all! I wouldn't argue with him but would perhaps ask questions instead. Not Jeremy Paxman style questions but as though you're idly wondering. I'd leave family and friends to deal with it themselves - eventually he'll realise when he's made a fool of himself.

Try to have things in common - TV programmes, that sort of thing - so that he learns you're not a complete idiot ALL of the time Grin

Pullman123 · 02/03/2021 14:45

Give him a membership application link/form for the Tories- Boris Johnson would welcome him with open arms!!!

You could treat him seriously and explore issues with him. Ask questions. Challenge unsupported statements. Encourage him to look at different points of view (and accept yourself that there may be one - know it all adults are even less appealing than know it all teens).
