So, DD(14) hates her life. All her friends are having amazing family time, our life is sh*t, etc etc.

sound familiar?

Your post seems quite dismissive of your daughter's feelings. Is there genuine distress there, or is this simply a 'grumpy teen' thing?

I was probably too brief. I don't think there is anything dramatic going on.

Just the minute life is not instantly going swimmingly it is massive drama.

Triggers like maybe having to clean teeth, shower, put clothes in wash bin.

Think it is just FOMO from others Instagram feed.

We get moaned at for not doing stuff, and at the same time suggestions of going for walks etc are ridiculed.

Not like we have many options to do stuff anyway..

Sounds pretty much like my teen but she's not yet got Insta so not much FOMO going on.

I have said to her more than once "please don't ever complain or look back and say we didn't do things, I ask you to do things with me all of the time and always get a no".

Plus she's wanting to stop all the extra curricular activities eg tennis, explorers, piano.

Easy enough when they aren't running now anyway.

But makes for a dull life...

I didn't like it when mine started dropping activities either. Luckily they've both agreed to keep one so that's something although it took a bit of persuasion.

You're right though, if you never do anything it does make life more dull.

Yes it sounds familiar (15year old dd). Social media makes people think everyone else is leading an amazing life when the reality is totally different. I'm so glad I didn't grow up with any social media or mobile phones.

when she’s back at school get her to ask friends about doing the DofE Awards, my daughter and her friends had a great time

Yes that age, 14-16, they can be SOOOO negative. I'm sure it's a developmental neccesity, breaking away from. the parent, but my god it's tedious.
