Teens and bras

Hi, so DD is 16 and is a DD/E cup but hardly wears a bra- usually just for school/going out and exercise. Is this normal? How often do your teens wear bras?

I can't answer the your teens question as I only have sons, but I wondered if you know why she isn't keen?

Just noting that there is nothing at our end suggesting this OP isn't genuine.

BSJohnson · 28/12/2020 22:52

That’s normal, op.

EarlyB1rd · 28/12/2020 22:57

@frustrationcentral I think she just doesn’t find them comfortable to wear for long. I’m pretty sure that they still fit though because she was last fitted for a bra in July and I can’t imagine she’s grown that much
@BSJohnson Okay, good to know! Thank you.

Hi. I started a chat about this exact topic but it got deleted. Received some harsh comments about how dare I tell my child what to do with her body and that I had issues, so I haven't posted since but had to reply and say my 13 year old is the same.

alt3earth · 30/12/2020 00:52

Bought some bras for Sept 2019 then of course grew more but didn't get round to remeasuring at M&s then of course lockdown. Guess is a D-ish and dd only wears crop tops at the mo but sports bras on pe days. She is happy enough and I did listen to other comments and have let her be.

alt3earth · 30/12/2020 00:56

My dd just goes on about how uncomfy the straps are but might be down to not adjusting them herself. Gone are the days of crying over new socks so... this is the next stage of change. Perhaps new generation of freedom fighters idk

Summerunlover · 30/12/2020 01:09

Where did she get fitted, as that might be the issue they are not fitted properly.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 30/12/2020 01:14

If your worried about her swinging free at home then yeah, they do it even when they have larger breasts. I like to hang free as do DDS.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2020 01:24

I've just seen my post above got deleted. I don't recall saying anything delete worthy Confused

That's my first ever deletion in my many years on here. I suppose it's a MN rite of passage, but I'm still mildly pissed off about it Grin

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 30/12/2020 01:28

@DramaAlpaca

Having 'known' you got years, I assumed you were doubting the authenticity of the post rather than saying anything dodgy!

Try asking MN why it was deleted I've had a couple of apologies about deleting in error & my posts were reinstated.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 30/12/2020 01:28

I think it's pretty normal for teens now.

alt3earth · 30/12/2020 01:32

I think it's a dodgy topic for mumsnet that's why comments get deleted. I was peeved when my chat got removed about this topic as though I was a weirdo, made me feel bad. But anyhow I'm not as worried about my dd not wearing a bra. As long as wears a crop top outside that would do for now.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2020 01:32

Haha, thanks @WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants. I'm normally so careful how I word things and I thought that post was carefully worded too. I think I'll leave it, like I said - rite of passage on MN Grin

alt3earth · 30/12/2020 01:36

EarlyB1rd so long as dd feels okay think is one to leave happy at the mo. I'm still learning not every teen girl wants to wear bras, I thought it was the norm and I need. Dd and other mums seem to be more relaxed so in the last few weeks so have I. Taken a year+ but

ApplesinmyPocket · 30/12/2020 01:38

Your DD is sixteen? not being goady Smile but why is it any concern of yours whether your almost-adult DD wears a bra or not?

I have two DDs and by they time they were twelve and had been bought appropriate clothing I wouldn't have dreamed of commenting on what underwear they wore, and they would have been mortified if I had.

alt3earth · 30/12/2020 01:48

Try not to be too harsh. Parenting doesn't come easy and sure op is just looking out for dd. It's not a wrong thing. I'm already done with this negativity.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 30/12/2020 01:56

Dd wears bralettes or sports bras for sport. I think a lot of the younger generation don’t wear a traditional bra with cups and wires and clasps.
