What are good spot treatments for teenage boys? Clearasil doesn’t appear to be very good

This work well for my teen, I think it’s £9.99 on Amazon at the moment www.nipandfab.com/skincare/range/teen-skin-fix-salicylic-acid/salicylic-fix-concentrate-extreme-2

I can get horrendous spots still (50) and nothing over the counter ever worked. I get Dalacin T on prescription - a lotion - and it does work. 🙂 How old is your son - my ds was pretty spotty from about 15-17 but he seems to have grown out of it now - I'm assuming hormones have a lot to answer for.

He’s 15 but hasn’t been too bad up until now

If his spots are recent and minimal, they are likely to be normal teenage spots and he needs to just be rigorous around hygiene and OTC spot stuff will help.

DramaAlpaca · 21/12/2020 01:15

If OTC stuff doesn't work and the spots persist, take him to the GP.
There's lots of stuff that can be prescribed. My 14 year old DS had a long course of antibiotics. It took a few months but his skin cleared completely and the spots never came back. For now, dump the Clearasil and get some benzoyl peroxide. You can get it OTC.

The only over the counter treatment that I’ve found that works for dd1 is acnecide.

TheSilentStars · 21/12/2020 06:37

The teen skin fix linked above contains salicylic and is great, as is the Roche Posay Effaclar range.
He needs to clean his face properly (both ranges do washes) and then use the salicylic product.
If it's proper acne, then GP for antibiotics or a Benzoyl Peroxide prescription.

All clearasil will do is dry his skin. Tea tree face wash and cream (Thursday Plantation) works really well and is OTC.

Cerave cleanser
Origins spot treatment zaps them

My DD is 15 shortly. Agree with posters above - over the counter potions don't work. I emailed to doctor a photo of her skin. Given a prescription for Duac cream - cleared her skin up wonderfully. Recommend this route.
