Lump in DDs armpit

Cutekittens4 · 05/11/2020 19:37

DD has noticed a lump under her arm this morning

Is this something serious
Been doing some research and found out lumps in armpits could be breast cancer…!!!

Should I consult a doctor or just wait and see

I do not want to go to the doctor for no reason (especially as we have gone into another lockdown)

Advice???

Thanks in advance!!! :)

Of course you go to the doctor. Could just be a gland but absolutely needs checking out.

bearlyactive · 05/11/2020 19:41

Definitely go to the doctor. You'll kick yourself if it's something serious and you don't go.

Clearasmuddypuddles · 05/11/2020 19:42

I have had lumps in my armpits on and off since a teenager. Mine is breast issue that just migrates there sometimes. It’s worse when I am pregnant.

It’s more than likely that, or a swollen lymph node. But definitely get it checked by a GP. I have mine checked every single time it flares up, just in case something important is missed.

Londoncatshed · 05/11/2020 19:44

Is it sore? You do have glands under your arm and they can be enlarged and sore if fighting an infection. If it doesn’t go you must visit your GP, however it’s likely a gland.

Cutekittens4 · 05/11/2020 19:50

Thanks for the advice

@Londoncatshed she won’t let me touch it because it is sore! Does this make it worse?

Will go see gp

No pain is not necessarily bad. How old is she? As well as swollen glands you can get inflamed skin cysts and ingrown hairs.

Hyperbolistic · 05/11/2020 19:55

If it's sore it's very unlikely to be anything sinister. It's a good sign. It's probably a blocked gland I had them pretty often when I was younger. But if it's not gone after a week it's probably wise to get her seen by her GP.

Glitterbiscuits · 05/11/2020 20:03

Does she shave her armpits? I had a small lump which turned out to be an ingrown hair!

No she doesn’t

She hasn’t got any under arm hair yet so…

Where would we go from here if it is and ingrown hair :)
Thank you

@Cutekittens4 You absolutely must get it checked by a GP however if it was my daughter I would be reassured by the fact it is sore makes it more likely to be either a swollen gland or an infected cyst. If it’s a gland it will probably improve in the next few days, however a cyst may need treatment. If she doesn’t have hair under her arms yet, she must be very young and it would be very unlikely to be breast cancer.

bearlyactive · 05/11/2020 20:52

How old is she, out of interest?

MaddieElla · 05/11/2020 20:52

I had this once and felt the hard lump and my blood ran cold. But it was a sort of spot which never burst but just seemed to be under the skin.

If it’s sore it’s usually a good sign. She is also very young.

Hm2020 · 05/11/2020 20:53

I went to the doctor about the same age for the same thing they told me it wAs a lymph node and to just keep an eye on it I reckon it stayed about a year then disappeared but definitely get it checked

AnoDeLosMuertos · 05/11/2020 20:57

It will be a blocked sweat gland. Don’t worry. Wait a month and if it hasn’t gone, go to the doctors. But even then it’ll only be a cyst.

formerbabe · 05/11/2020 21:00

I had this when I was at uni so at some age from 18-21, can't remember exactly!! Went to doctor, it was a blocked sweat gland from memory...Went down by itself...I think I may have held warm flannels against it.

Take her to the doctors anyway obviously even just to put your mind at rest.

How's dd op?

Cuddling57 · 08/11/2020 19:46

My DS had one. He had been bitten and it was his lymph node reacting. Ending up on antibiotics as his arm became red and swollen.
I agree it's 'good' it's painful.
Obv go to the doctors but don't worry in the meantime.
I always get myself worked up over these things.
