My 14 year old was caught skipping a lesson at school , I’m having such problems with her at the moment with disrespect as far as I know she’s never done this before but who knows . I’m completely disappointed in her I’ve asked her why she did it not there’s no reason . I have to do something what would you do ? Confiscate her phone I really don’t know how to deal with this
Any advice please

There is always a reason. Confrontation and punishment wouldn't be my immediate reaction. I think in order to get through to teens you need to give them time and understanding more than a bollocking. There will absolutely be a reason for this but if you go in all guns boxing she isn't going to feel safe and secure to talk to you about it. How is your relationship otherwise? Do you get some good one to one time?

I would try and find the problem, the kids I know that do this and normally struggling to cope with something - could be an issue with friendship group, can't do work, issue at home. I would try and keep her talking rather than punish. I would also point out that education is important, helps you get a good job and that equals more money if she's money motivated. It maybe worth asking school how she appears at school if you can't get anywhere with her. I've got a girl same age and there's often a lot of girl friendship group drama. I also find when she's rude to me she's generally got a problem with friendships / school etc and taking it out on me. When I talk through school and find the issue her and help her with a solution behaviour improves and she's nice again. It's not an easy age at all.

Try and figure out why she skipped the lesson.

Take a look at her SM and see if anything looks off?

Don’t go in guns blazing.
