My daughter who is 15.5 was really down about her legs last night :( nothing I say helps and is making everything worse. In the end I told her there is nothing she can do She just has to accept that’s the way she is built and she should focus on the good stuff ! Her legs aren’t even short but she does have a long body which does make them look short. She is 5.8 and size 8/10 very toned as she is sporty but she is very curvy as in small waist and wide hips ( very much a woman’s body) Her friends are all the usual leggy tiny teenage girls which dosnt help or even taller then her with very long legs. She never used to be fussed about it but boys have entered her sight !! And everything has changed. Sorry about the long rant but I really don’t know what to say or do to help her

As a fellow short legged, long bodied, all round short arse, while I have every sympathy with your daughters frustration at not being built like Elle Mcpherson, I'm afraid it comes squarely into the category of 'this is the body you got given, suck it up buttercup'.

I must admit that after I became friends with a mother and her daughter, the daughter having been been born with achondroplasia (which causes a form of dwarfism), I really did get some perspective. Especially since ultimately, it got so bad that her bright, beautiful daughter could no longer walk.)

OP, off the top of my head, here is a list of the things I hated about myself as a teen (I mean, really hated and felt quite down about) :

Stubby fingers
Hips too wide
Chest too flat
Thighs too chunky
Nose too long
Tummy too sticky out
Fat (everywhere)

I was 5'7" and weighed just over 9 stone.i look at pictures now and wish there was a way of going back in time to see myself with the maturity of a 44 year old woman. I guess all you can do is reassure her.
