Pen grips/ handwriting help

My kid holds her pen really strangely. A lateral quadrupod I believe it is called. Her fingers and wrist aches after a few sentences and she ends up with indents on her fingers and part of her hand where the pen rests. Her pens also stop working after a day or so despite having ink in but I believe this may be because she holds her pen slightly upright rather than at an angle. Is it worth trying to get her to change the way she holds her pen? She is 13

Also, has anybody else got this pen grip and how do they feel about it? Is it comfortable for you
