Changing bedding

What age were your teens when they started to strip their beds and put on clean bedding? Assuming they have duvet covers.

They are from a different planet and on that planet they don't change beds but they do wear jeans once and then chuck them in the wash :)

ds(16) started stripping his bed, when asked, and bringing it down for a wash when he was around 12.

From around 14ish he will strip it, again when asked, and put in the washing machine, switch on, and replace it with another from the cupboard (usually just before bed!) He will put on the sheet and pillowcases and ask for help with the double duvet.

I usually empty the machine (because he's gone out) and hang out to dry/put in the dryer.

My kids have stripped their beds from the age of around 5/6 but I put the fresh bedding back on. By the time they start high school I should hope they could make up a single bed.

Couldn't tell you when it started but at 16 I have no involvement in DD's bed -she just cracks on with it

I was thinking about jobs they could do, in addition to taking dirty plates etc they have used to kitchen and picking up their own messes (including putting their dirty clothes in wash bin). and emptying the dishwasher some days and pouring juice etc at dinner.

I do have to ask several times to get them to do above jobs.

I am trying to get them to realise I am not their slave.

I might start with getting them to strip the beds based on your experiences.

Mine did theirs form about age 12/13 b ut I would prompt them to do it when I wanted to wash them. My DD2 is 22 and lives at home. She washed hers when she wants to but is often prompted by seeing that I am changing mine.

Tried to get them to do it from age 12, but consistently did it from age 14. My son does his most weeks. My daughter usually only after I've nagged her a bit.
My son (since 15) does his own ironing and cooking as he's usually on some special.fitness regime. Both are responsible for cleaning and vacuuming their rooms. My son will also vacuum the whole house for an extortionate amount. He does more around the house than my daughter, but he also makes the most mess.
Neither have learned the art of hanging up towels after use!

DS1 has been doing the fitted sheet since he moved into the top bunk age 6.
They could both do a whole bed by 11/12 although I still do the duvet covers sometimes.

what did you all do when you were youngsters.
most children seem to do so little now, so little is expected of them.
no wonder they treat their parents, esp mother, like staff, as if they exist solely to service their needs and wants.

SS doesn't do his bed. Can't even put a pillow case on. DH does it for him.

They are capable of lots, it is all about getting them involved and learning. Basics to start with -

most days ds is involved in meal prep, we work together and have a good chat while doing it.

• peel/chop veg, start with basic cooking
• Make/clear table (set places, take through ketchup or whatever, make drinks - glass water/squash - for everyone while you sort dinner)
• load/unload dishwasher or wash/dry dishes

he also helps out with (not all the time)

• strip/make his bed, they will struggle at first but learn quickly (will need help with duvet but can easily do fitted sheets/pillows). helps me with duvet on my superking bed
• vacuums
• dusts
• clean mirrors/glass
• grocery shopping or help put away
• own room - vacuum, dust, bedding, tidy, laundry, windows and sills including occasional behind bed/furniture.

As a teen I was cleaning the bathroom once a week too. I've spared him that so far, but it he makes a mess I tell him to clean it.
