DS vomits when with girlfriend

Bit of a strange one! My DS is 17. He is outwardly extrovert, confident, would happily sit & chat to anyone & can get up on stage in front of an audience without batting an eyelid. However, since age 9 he has suffered (badly at times) from anxiety, After a long wait he got an appointment with CAMHS last summer & was diagnosed with OCD. He was prescribed fluoxetine and a course of talking therapy which was cut short due to the lockdown. Feeling much better over the summer he stopped the medication a month ago. He recently started going out with a girl he met at college. After a lot of snapchat over lockdown they finally got together but after their first date he told me he kept having to rush to the bathroom to throw up. They’ve met up 3 or 4 times now & it keeps happening. Yesterday after they arranged to meet he had a panic attack & had to cancel the date. My DH & I both talked to him and he says he definitely really likes her & wants to keep seeing her. His girlfriend has been very understanding, bless her, but I have to say I’m flummoxed! Does anybody have any advice or experience of this?

I have been on dates in my late teens / early twenties with similar men. They relaxed eventually. Group meeting may be easier, or a firm plan like a walk or cinema.

Therein may be your problem. He may need to continue on Prozac, OCD does not magically cure itself and he sound highly anxious.

He stopped his medication. Did he do this himself or under his doctors care? I think this will be the reason he is now struggling.

I should say I have no experience of this and have never heard of being sick on a date as you describe. However, could it help him if there were firmer plans about what they were going to do and when/where so there was less uncertainty. Just a suggestion.

A school friend of mine used to be sick every time she was due to see a particular boy. This was about 20 years ago and they are still together now!
