School Shoes

What shoes do your teen boys wear to high school? DS is starting high school in September and I’m struggling with what is best. I like the look of Dr Martens shoes but he’s not great at laces. What’s cool? How strict are most schools with shoes ie (no DMs because of brown sole and yellow stitches)??

Have 3 kids, 2 of them about to start y10 and y12 .

They have both had doc martens since starting - they need ‘breaking in’, dc1 had terrible blisters as he ignored that advice, but they last and last. (Dc1 passed his on to DC2, as he grew out of them.)

They are at different schools, but both strict: have to be black, and not trainers. No yellow stitching! I’ve bought at least 4 lots of dr marten 1461 black smooth shoes, often from eBay sellers (new).

you can get DMs without the yellow laces. Loads of kids wear them, he will very quickly get good at laces when he has to.

I wanted DS to go into Y7 with Velcro shoes because he want good at laces and because I thought if him as still being a toddler. We were having a stand off in the shoe shop, and the shops owner very firmly said "he's a big boy now, he needs to have big boy shoes" She was right. A week later he was very fast with his laces and felt like the bees knees with his pointy (IMO) Startrite lace ups.

DD is going into Y11 with DMs - as are most of the rest of the school.
