What do you use to restrict access to certain apps?

I recently had to take my DD's phone away, she is 13, nearly 14, as she was using it too much anyway, but I also found some disturbing stuff on there, and found out she is talking to people she doesn't know.

She has been given a few chances before with social media with oversharing and creating secret accounts, so she has blown it now and I am putting a complete ban on social media.
When she does get the phone back she can only have whatsapp, purely so she can still communicate with her real friends

I am just wondering how to do this? I know that you can set up parental controls on the play store, to stop them downloading any new apps, but my son seems to think she can download from elsewhere if she really wanted which will compromise the security of her phone.

I got an app called screen time, which looked really good, block apps, see what apps are used the most, cut off times, even track there phone, but typically is just doesn't work.

I would love to know what others do, ideally I want to be able to stop the downloading of any apps mainly, anything else like seeing how long she is spending online, or controlling screen time would be a bonus

What kind of phone is it? Android or iphone?

Maybe have a look at R Pact - I think that might do what you want it to do.

But if you're dd is very tech savvy she might find a way around it - my dd knew I was going to put it in her phone and so cloned the calculator and used it to hide a chat app 🙄 before I got hold of her phone.
