At first I thought his gf had attacked him with her nails. But these marks have not faded or disappeared and glow bright purple when he is cold. I'm just wondering if they are normal? He's not overweight by any means even though he eats like a horse.

Are these stretch marks on ds back???

I've never seen them going horizontal like that but the bottom ones do look like stretch marks.

Worth sending pics to dr to get checked for sure
I did this with my ds and his were stretch marks and hes very skinny but apparently poss due to growth spurt ( height for him)
My friends son also has some again tall and skinny, apparently happens a bit ?
But still show gp as there are rare conditions that can cause marks like this i think , so dr is best for confirmation
Mine was happy to have a picture sent and he diagnosed from there

My ds had these.
Thought he had been whipped or something!
Don't worry. 😁

DottyDotAgain · 31/07/2020 11:37

Yep. There was another thread on this I think a while ago. Both my ds's and my friends' ds's had these as young teenagers! They look scarily vivid but ds's have now faded (they're 18 and 16 now). I think that it must be when they're having growth spurts - we get them on our breasts and tummies (well I do...) and boys get them across their back!

cosmo30 · 31/07/2020 11:40

My dp has the scars from these, it's stretch marks and his look like he was whipped!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 31/07/2020 11:44

Ah thank you I was so shocked by it when I saw them and certainly thought someone had hurt him!! He was completely unaware, I hope they do fade as they seem quite deep iykwim. I will get him to start putting moisturiser on them and maybe contact the GP. He's so skiiny so did worry he was malnourished.

My brother had markings like this when we were teens. They were just stretch marks from his growth spurts. You could send a picture to the doctors or pop into the pharmacy for a consultation, just in case. Maybe get him some bio oil to apply twice daily (it will take a while to fade though).

SeaToSki · 31/07/2020 12:22

Looks just like my DS. He is 6’2” and got them when he had a big spurt. They went purpley and then silvery. They never completely go but will fade.

footballinterferingagain · 31/07/2020 12:28

There was a post on here a few months ago and a poster pointed out a very specific illness that gives these marks. I can't remember what it was though ... possibly Elhers dahlia syndrome. Il have a look ...

Pomegranatemolasses · 31/07/2020 12:30

DS has/had these. It's only recently that I realised they were stretch marks.

Kb12 · 31/07/2020 12:36

Yes my brothers have stretch marks on their backs

RaisinGhost · 31/07/2020 12:51

My DH has these, he got them at the same age your son is now.

ihearttc · 01/08/2020 12:47

DS1 is 15 and had exactly the same, they looked like tiger claw marks they were so deep, I could almost put my finger in them. 18 months on they have faded and you can’t hardly see them anymore. His were horizontal as well which if you think about it, it makes sense cause they are growing upwards so the skin stretches that way.

Remona · 01/08/2020 12:51

It must be a boy thing. My DS has some on his lower back just the same. They just seemed to appear out of nowhere when he was in his mid teens. He has them nowhere but on his mid lower back and he’s tall and skinny so it must be a growth spurt thing.

DramaAlpaca · 01/08/2020 12:53

Yes, two of my boys have them. They do look quite shocking when you first notice them.

DS1 is 26 and his have faded to silver now, DS3 is 22 and his are starting to fade. Both are tall and had massive growth spurts at 14.

DS3 tells anyone rude enough to comment that they are scars from a fight with a bear Grin

ItWasntMyFault · 01/08/2020 13:09

Yes, my 16yr old ds has them.

Aramox · 03/08/2020 21:21

Mine too.

Tinythumbelina · 09/08/2020 16:45

My son, 14 exactly the same. Pretty sure stretch marks. Bought some oil from Boots

Stephenfrylust · 09/08/2020 16:48

I have some horizontal ones on my back from my teenage years. I was very small and then hit puberty and shot up. I have ones on the front now to match post pregnancy!

Aquamarine1029 · 09/08/2020 16:50

They are stretch marks from rapid growth and are very common. Both my husband and son have them.

EL8888 · 09/08/2020 16:52

Yep they’re stretch marks. My ex husband is 6’3 and he had them there on his back

tinierclanger · 09/08/2020 16:58

I had them just like that at the same age.

Vermeil · 10/08/2020 14:45

My 15yo son has had them for a couple of years, since he started a major growth spurt. It’s stretch marks. Alas, he’s inherited the predisposition for them from me, and I got it from my dad.
We’re all stripy people... 😑

itsgettingweird · 10/08/2020 14:47

My ds has those. They are stretch marks.

We are trying bio oil to see if we can make them lighter.

His also go redder in different conditions.
