How much does your teen/tween sleep?

I have a 12 year old and he started sleeping 10pm-11am on weekends. It's school holidays here now and so he's sleeping like this everyday. I have a doctor appointment next week for him as I'm worried about how tired he is to be sleeping so much, but thought I'd ask out of interest? Maybe it's normal?!

10pm to 8.30 am if left to his own devices.

Except the first few days of the school holidays when he’s visibly tired and can sleep 12 hours straight.

That sounds about right for me throughout teenage years.. 11am was my standard wake up time if left to my own devices!

I think teena need sleep with growing and developing maybe?

My 12 year old DS will happily sleep in until 10am if left to do so. My 16 year old DD - well she finally surfaced at 1pm yesterday!

Passthecake30 · 01/07/2020 22:32

My 12 yr old is 10.30-9 / 9.30 at the moment.

My 13 yo will sleep about 10.30pm to 11.30am if left to it!

If left to her own devices. 11pm-12pm! even longer sometimes.

littlefireseverywhere · 02/07/2020 09:42

Sounds normal to me!

DS13 has just surfaced but he sneaked his phone to bed! Lockdown has upset sleep routines tbh. School nights he has had lights out by 10.30 and been woken about 7.30 to be ready for online lessons that started at 8.30.. he is normally awake by 9ish on non school days.

Mixitupalot · 03/07/2020 10:08

Perfectly normal, my 16 yo Dd sleeps 12-12 easily sometimes longer.

Mine has always been a good riser. This doesn’t seem to have changed as a teenager (16). Even with no school he’s awake at eight and out of bed at nine. Stays up until 11, maybe a bit later now he’s got no school.

CMOTDibbler · 05/07/2020 18:40

Mine is just 14, and goes to sleep at 9 and appears at 8. Some days he'll sleep later, but he needs a solid 11 hours. He's always needed a lot of sleep, hence the earlyish bed time

I think my 13 year old DD is a koala.

She’ll happily sleep 0100-1300.
