Wht App for tracking children

Hi
I'm going through the joyful part of being a parent where you have to let your little ones grow up a bit and go out on their own with their friends to eg the park, walking to school etc
What's the best app to be able track them so you can at least have some confidence you vaguely know where they are?
Thanks - all tips welcome on keeping children safe

I use Find My Kid app. It's free (can buy additional bits). Shoes the route they take, the % battery life, you can listen into the phones surroundings, you can send an alert to the phone and it rings really loudly. Brilliant

Brilliant! Thank you!!

I use Family Link by google, it's a parental control for android devices (totally free) that includes the gps tracking too. Very useful also to limit screen time and avoid all the inappropriate stuff.

Feellikedancingyeah · 17/06/2020 12:57

@MrMagooInTheLoo can you listen their surroundings anytime ?

MrMagooInTheLoo · 17/06/2020 13:03

Yes you can, and that's free too

We use Life 360

great idea - how do you talk to your teenagers about installing this on their phone? in the past my son has 'hacked' the screentime app I've used and knows how to get rid of these apps. . . .

EloiseTheFirst · 17/06/2020 13:51

We use Life 360. It's brilliant. And free.

Ifeelfat · 17/06/2020 17:53

Also Life 360 - really good and really simple. Whole family use it to see where we all are. Useful.

Ifeelfat · 17/06/2020 17:57

SwissBee my teens quite like the fact that we can all see each other. I think they also secretly feel a bit more secure, even my 6foot 16 yo Grin.
Even if they weren’t happy though, if I wanted it on there (especially when younger) I’m afraid I’d pull rank - if they want the phone they accept the app.

merryhouse · 17/06/2020 17:58

We use Life 360 too. It's not been massively useful occasionally though because something about the teenager's phone means it can't find it (and no, it's not because he's switched it off). Generally when he's been in a Faraday cage such as a bus...

FATEdestiny · 17/06/2020 17:59

We use Life360

It tracks the whole family, so me and DH included. I figure that if I'm invading my teens privicy somewhat for her safety, I should be willing to out my money where my mouth is and be tracked too.

It helps us all because she'll often use it to find out if I'm at the shops (and ask me to buy something) or to see how far away / long I'll be getting home from my runs.

SoupDragon · 17/06/2020 18:00

you can listen into the phones surroundings

That is horrendous!

I used to track mine using Find My iPhone. I only ever really used to to see whereabouts they were on their journey home though.

Yes, we could all track each other.

I use trust. My parents never tracked me and I survived. If they've a phone they can call/I can call them.
