dd has her first babysitting assignment

Dd (15) has been asked to babysit this saturday from 7pm t0 11pm. The older boy is 3 years, younger 6 months. Would £4 an hour be a reasonable rate? They should both be in bed when she arrives. What kind of problems could she expect - and what advice would you give to help prepare her? She is nervous but excited too - and I will be nearby if needed. Any tips gratefully received.

My dd gets £3.50 to £5/hr,same age.

What the mum would like her to do if either child wakes,ie let them cry,comfort,drink etc.

Where phone is and relevant numbers.

Would checking on the children wake them or should she just listen out?

How to work telly,although teens are hardly as bad as me at this.

Also remind her to wash up any dishes she uses.

Ask what she should do if their house phone rings
Talk through with her what order of things she should do if their was a fire
Make sure she knows where the keys for all exits of the house are kept
What should she do if some one knocks on the door
Tell her not to eat all their chocolate biscuits!

Ask for emergency contact numbers as well as parent's contact numbers, and also for a written note of details such as children's dates of birth/allergies/gp details in case of emergency.
It's nice and professional looking to take a couple of special age appropriate toys and books or puppets too in case she might need to entertain the 3yr old.
