I was at my sisters house recently and mentioned that my 14 year old son had had a female friend in his bedroom. My sister was shocked as was my niece and pretty much branded me irresponsible for allowing a teenage boy upstairs with someone of the opposite sex. Bearing in mind that she isn't his girlfriend. I went in and they were just watching tv and on their phones like most teenagers. Even if she was his girlfriend did it matter? They implied I was encouraging him to be intimate!

Any Thoughts please.

Absolutely ridiculous. Implies that you can't trust him to have female friends.

Interested in views. My son is 16 in year 11. Girlfriend of 5months 16 in year 11. She is staying over next weekend. He wants to sleep in same bed with her. No sex ..he says. Just cuddle. I’m not naive I do trust that but friends all saying they are too young. Now it makes me doubt myself. Answers on a postcard. He is my 3rd . Not been in same position with other two who are 23 and 22.

I mean, what's the issue if they do have sex? It's legal, presumably both of them are capable of consent? Where else are they supposed to do it?

Mine are 25 and 21. I would not have allowed friends of the opposite sex in theor bedrooms.

DS brought his girlfriend home at 17 to stay. Which she did adter we had discussed with him the importance of atable loving relationships and contraception. And we had been reassured her parents were happy for her to stay te night at our house and in our son's bedroom.

It's fine for teenagers to have friends of the opposite sex and I never gave a second thought to my teenagers having their mates of either sex in their bedrooms.
