Home schooling

My 16y old ds struggled with his IGCSE’s and failed. In an International school in France, he’s now doing the IB program (first yr). I feel like pulling him out, homeschooling him for Gcse and then A level. Am I mad? I should add that we get on well though he can be very stubborn.

I wouldn’t advise home schooling - school is about more than learning it’s also social interactions, responsibility, resilience and developing people skills. Schools provide careers talks, work experience placements, revision practice and homework and all the extra curricular sports and clubs too

There are just as many positives to home education as there are negatives. Maybe get this moved to the home schooling topic?

@Lifeispantsatthemoment my dn is homeschooled and being the rounded young teen he is he would never make such a one sided judgement about a topic.

OP I think you need to talk to your ds properly and make a joint decision with him.

At that age it really has to be his own decision. My concern would be that if he struggled with IGCSE he is likely to really struggle with the IB - it's a very demanding course. (I have taught both IGCSE and IB.)

You say he failed his IGCSE. In all subjects? I'm surprised the school have let him start the IB programme without good grades in at least his Higher Level subjects.

So yes, perhaps home school and resit IGCSE (which board - I think most international schools do Cambridge) in at least the core subjects. I assume you live in France so there are no other schools available.

Why shouldn't he finish the IB programme he already started?
