DS16 is a typical teenage boy. He goes to sixth form in the city, where he also has a part time job. He uses most of his wages on going out with his mates, girlfriend and also on his gym membership. He’s very much a fitness buff, he’s always showing off his pecs and six pack. He is an extremely attractive lad, very muscular and tall with a chiselled jawline, great cheekbones and a tanned complexion (from his dad not me
) However, I’m concerned he may be making regretful changes to his appearance. Last month we let him get both his ears pierced, as long as he paid as its his body. It was something he spoke about for a long time, with the promise of only getting one stud in each ear that can easily be taken out. DH and I were perfectly content with this. Now it turns out he’s investing in ear stretchers! He’s also planning on getting his eyebrow, nose and lips pierced within time, as well as tattoos etc. I’m worried he’ll take it too far to the point that he’ll not only regret tampering with his good looks, but he may struggle with employment. I’m happy he’s happy, but I feel that this impulsive teenage decisions may be big regrets when he’s older.
Right now he thinks I’m ‘cool’ with this but I’m really not. It’s his choice and I can’t stop him if he still wants to get all this done, but I need to talk things through.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can discuss this with him?
