How much do you spend each month on your teenage girl for clothes, beauty treatments, hair etc?

My DD is 15 and she usually gets bought a couple of clothing items per month. I buy her basic make up such as foundation, just cheaper brands such as Rimmel. A hair trim every 8 weeks or so.

My next door neighbour's DD is 17 and doing A-levels. Her parents pay each month for lots of expensive clothes for her (Topshop, Oh Polly, designer brands), she has hair extensions, nails done, lash extensions.

I'm wondering if I'm being a bit stingy?

Mine has highlights that are eye wateringly expensive but has a part time job so pays for her own nails and lashes.

If my dd wants make-up or nails done or whatever, then she saves up and pays for it, or asks for birthday or Christmas.

I pay when she wants her hair trimmed
I pay if she needs clothes.

If she wants clothes, then - like make up or nails, she saves or puts on wish list for Christmas or birthday

I do the same as you. She uses birthday money to buy more expensive clothes but I’ll get her basics and haircuts, toiletries but not make up. I wouldn’t pay for hair dyeing or extensions in a salon or gel nails.

I think you're being generous. I'm pretty the much the same as @BackforGood. I pay for 14 year old DD's haircuts and for necessary clothes that she needs. Any clothes that are a want rather than a need she pays for. I pay for her toiletries, spot treatments etc but make up and nails she has to pay for.

I buy clothes my dd needs, she pays for any wants.
I pay for her highlights every 8 weeks.
She plays piano so no acrylics thankfully.
She tend to get make up as gifts but again I'd buy any basics.

She gets about £50 per month pocket money.

We pay for a haircut (£25/8-10 weeks), shampoo, spot control potions, conditioner. We argue about clothes so Dd is finally going to charity shops (pay herself).

DD earns so can pay for nails, makeup. She reckons she was blessed with perfect eyebrows, luckily.

No I never did for my DD. She's survived the privations somehow.

My 15 yo has begged my for acrylics. I think they look dreadful , especially on children.

My DD is 15.
We pay £15 for a hair cut 3 or 4 times a year.
She's stopped growing and isn't that interested in clothes and hates clothes shopping, so clothes are currently to replace worn out ones only unless I happen to see something.
She's not into makeup, beauty treatments, etc.

Low maintenance.

I have two teen daughters, 15 and 17, they each get pocket money (£7.50/week and £8.50/week) and the 17 yr old gets a bit extra by baby sitting for a friend. We buy underwear, school clothes, a couple of pairs of shoes and a coat for them when needed. If they want make up or hair cuts or beauty treatments, those are luxuries and it's their money to spend.

I'm a 16-year-old daughter and I can assure you that you're not stingy at all. My mum is very strict and she doesn't buy me anything at all. I'm not even allowed to put on basic makeup or nails and I do not get any pocket money so I do not get to buy any clothes. We are definitely not poor - it's just the method my mum has in this house!

My 15 year old DD gets an allowance of £50 per month from which she has to by toiletries non-school clothes and entertain herself. She feels the amount of money is fair she would like more for nails etc so she works baby sitting and when she turns 16 she will get a job inTK Max or Boots.

That sounds quite tough @annemay123, do you get on with her generally?

I don't approve of hair extensions lash extensions acrylic nails or huge designer wardrobes for teenagers so I don't fund these things.

At this age I paid for regular haircuts and gave my dd £20 a week spending money. This was more than most of her peers. I also bought everyday clothes and she often had make up as presents. This worked fine for us.

Beyond the basic my DDs supply there own

One does make up one doesn’t.

They’ve both had jobs from 13.

I give my nearly 15 year old an allowance of 80€ per month. She has use of the own brand family toiletries (which I use myself) like everyone else - covers all hygiene needs - but anything special / luxury / fancy / unnecessary she buys herself. She doesn't have any transport to pay for and her PAYG phone bill is paid by us (very cheap anyway) but she also spends her allowance on entertainment sometimes.

She chooses to spend very little on "beauty" because she's incredibly beautiful as she is, like every teenage girl, but if that's what she wanted to spend her money on I wouldn't say she shouldn't... Instead her extravagances (IMO) are Vans, Adidas retro style trainers and band T shirts, and she saves into a savings account a well as saving for more shoes than she needs and buying ordinary mid to low price high street clothes and having an eye for a bargain...

You aren't stingy at all. My daughter is only 13 and gets £5 pocket money a week. I have bought her make up but she had also bought some items herself when she's gone into town with her friends. Obviously I buy her all of her clothes,haircuts etc. Doesn't have her nails done. She has some fake nails thought. What is the going rate for pocket money for teenagers? Don't know what the average is really.

Dd1 is 15 and I am similar to many.. No pocket money as such but has a card with money in it for emergencies or lunch if she is out.

Clothes are cheap brands and I fund those.

Make up is minimal as not allowed in school and then does a sport a lot of the time, so has some but doesn't need replacing often. No nails or hair extensions just a trim twice a year or so as it's long.

I do spend a lot on her activity and schooling, and I pay for things like additional school trips, meals out with friends and cinema, concerts, so not stingy but I don't see why a teenager should spend so much on beauty.
