What do boys wash their face with?

DS is 13. He needs to take more care of himself and I know he'll get spots if he's not careful. At the most he uses water on his face whilst in the shower. I need to find something he will use that doesn't smell girly but is not too harsh for his skin as hormones have yet to kick in and it's not yet greasy.

Is a shower not enough? 😳

NCTDN · 19/09/2019 22:17

Just water though?

Mine is 17 now- has used 'Clean and clear' daily exfoliating wash since he hit puberty at 12 and got spotty- not really perfumed- if your DS has clear skin at the mo leave it be and keep washing with just water- but if he starts getting blackheads and spots then this stuff is good. Also change his pillowcase 2/3 times a week - it really helps Smile

SleepyFlump · 19/09/2019 22:36

DS started using something from the Body Shop. It's surprisingly good. Cleared up his skin in under a week.

@SleepyFlump was his skin spotty when he started using it? I'd like ds to get into good habits even though it's not quite spotty atm.

I like the idea about simply changing the pillowcase.

Just slightly pimply and blackheady on his nose.

Fleetheart · 21/09/2019 21:56

If he is happy and not spotty then I think you are a bit overbearing in your approach. Why don’t you let him choose?

NCTDN · 21/09/2019 21:58

I'm trying to create good habits. If I left him to it his face wouldn't even see water Blush I don't think that's overbearing?

NCTDN not overbearing. I've been thinking same thing about my DS 11. He gets water on his face in a shower, and then rubs a flannel over it in the morning, but he should start a better routine soon...might look at Body Shop range as they have been good for DD15.

brownjumper · 21/09/2019 22:08

Flannel? Like girls do?

NCTDN · 21/09/2019 22:08

@Hotsummerplease I looked at the body shop but thought the charcoal might be a bit powerful for now. Others seem to be a bit girly smelling (he's v fussy!!). I've got a Clearasil one that says it's a gentle foaming wash for him to try.

DS1 uses a grapefruit one that I also use, he doesn't seem to think it's girly :o it is pink though, but not in a flowery way, just in a grapefruity way.

PestyMachtubernahme · 21/09/2019 22:11

Agree with MrsF change the pillow cases every three days.

My lot, DC, DSC and DFC all used philosophy Purity not the cheapest, but only a few drops are needed.

applepineapple · 21/09/2019 22:11

Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Available in Boots, nice and gentle in the skin and 'unisex' packaging - plain white & green

Comefromaway · 21/09/2019 22:11

Ds just uses Simple face wash.

SunnySomer · 21/09/2019 22:13

Body shop tea tree face wash. It smells clean rather than girly. Bit astringent though if your ds has no spots yet

Hotsummerplease · 21/09/2019 22:14

brownjumper yes those special girly flannels that are sold for girls only and if boys use them they turn into girls

Rachelover60 · 21/09/2019 22:14

A facial wash and sometimes a scrub is good. They don't smell girly.

LemonYumYums · 21/09/2019 22:16

If spots or blackheads do make an appearance, Nip and Fab Glycolic wash and glycolic pads sorted both my teenagers acne. Wish I’d discovered it years ago - we tried everything else 😀

joblotbubble · 21/09/2019 22:17

Soap and water?

I'm not sure why a specific face product is a 'good' habit and soap is not 🤷‍♀️

Comefromaway · 21/09/2019 22:18

Soap made both Dd and ds’s skin worse whereas face wash seemed to help.

Maladicta · 21/09/2019 22:19

Mine have sensitive skin, Effaclar from La Roche Posay is the only thing that doesn't bring them out in further breakouts.

Plasebeafleabite · 21/09/2019 22:22

About £3 - light aloe vera smell not too drying

Very good for combination skin

Water only in our house, regardless of age or sex.
