What is the usual age for shaving?

Ds is developing a bit of a mustache.

He has asked for a razor. DH has said he is too young and as once he starts then it is a faff and has to continue. I think if he is asking then he should be allowed?

What is the usual age teens start shaving?

When they have facial hair they want rid of, whatever age it is.

dementedpixie · 26/08/2019 19:40

What age is he? Could he try an electric one first?

SolitudeAtAltitude · 26/08/2019 19:42

Yes, I just bought a cheap electrical one (Braun £20) and he can shave when he wants.

Why wouldn't you?

SolitudeAtAltitude · 26/08/2019 20:02

When he was 13

Aquamarine1029 · 26/08/2019 20:04

Whatever age the teen/tween is ready. It should be his choice.

lljkk · 26/08/2019 20:17

When they want to!

NerrSnerr · 26/08/2019 20:27

When he wants to shave. He has facial hair and he wants to shave it so he's old enough.

doublesheesh · 26/08/2019 22:05

Ask your DH if he would be the same way about a dd and a bra? If a teen is ready, they are ready. Facial hair grows at different times and different thickness in everyone. It's ridiculous to refuse because dh thinks it's a faff.

DS was 14, he’s only 15 now, still only shaves his moustache area, only needs doing every few weeks, it’s not like a mans beard which needs doing every day in the early stages.

StrumpersPlunkett · 26/08/2019 22:21

ds1 was 13 when he tried plucking his monobrow
I suggested to dh that he showed him what to do with his tache
he shaves once every couple of weeks now and he is 15

kazza446 · 26/08/2019 22:32

My dh is 13, he was told to shave his tache by teachers at school! We bought him an electrical shaver and he just shaves it as and when required.

Lara53 · 29/08/2019 22:14

DS1 was 16.5 - he’s blonde so got away with not shaving for longer than most mates.

DS2 was 12 almost 13 - dark brown hair and obvious thickening tache and people commenting at school so he just started shaving. Only needs to do it every 2 weeks ish at the moment

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2019 22:49

Ds was nearly 15. He only needed to do it every few weeks at first. Now about once a week. His tache he's only ever done once (day after his birthday!) and it's still not returned and it's been 10 days!

Itsnearly2020 · 30/08/2019 20:05

DS is 17 and desperately needs to get his electric razor out of its box. He’s been chopping hairs with scissors 😩

AllFourOfThem · 30/08/2019 20:06

When they are ready. Better they put up with a bit of a faff with shaving than be bullied by their classmates for having parents who won’t allow it.
