Any advice on which brands to buy not buy and cost? (Size 8/yr 9)

Patricks are cheap, cheerful and tend not to split as much as well known brands. Go to Sports Direct. I have 3 rugby playing boys so have loads of experience of boots.
If he plays in the pack try and get forward boots that go up the ankle -a bit more support for the ankle in the scrum and extra studs for grip

Is he a forward or a back.
If he's a forward, something with 8 studs is best for soft ground.

I always buy Asics because they fit nice and wide and have heel lifts in them. Adidas are popular too but very narrow. Check Lovell Rugby ti see what's on sale.

Also, if you get football boots, remember to buy a pair of rugby studs. Anythibg pointy or smaller than 10mm at the narrowest point isn't match legal.

Thank you! V helpful as usual Smile

Just make sure the studs are kitemarked. Buy a separate pack and replace if you have to.

Also, don't underestimate the importance of gaffer tape before a match...simply place a strip around the entire boot and over the laces. Stops awkward pauses in the game when the little poppet has to do his laces up!Grin

@jof If he's a prop, he's probably counting on that break just to make it through!

@JustPurple...1x 2nd row and 2 x flankers...they've played since ages 10, 8 and 6....now 22, 20 & 15...I think between them they know every 'old school ' trick in the law book!

Buy what fits well. Same as school shoes the brands tend to fit differently. We normally end up with Canterbury’s as they fit both my boys well. I go to a local independent sports shop for fitting
