What haircut does your DS get?

DS 13 has really thick (unmanageable) curly hair so usually gets a short buzz cut at the barbers. Exactly like in the photo (closest google image I could find) He’s had this haircut since he was about 5. Recently he’s been asking for something a bit more grown up. Something a little more interesting. Bur him and I really don’t know what to say to the barber. What does your DS’s get?

Number 5 (or similar length scissor cut) back and sides and left longer on top so he can style it out of his eyes. He’s not very original but it works for him.

Get on Pinterest and search mens short hairstyles - pick one, show the barber. Done.

My ds has longer hair. Currently just above shoulders at the back and fringe down to his chin (he is 12). You could just get it short at the sides and longer at the top

Google “Meet me at McDonald’s Haircut”

Forgot to mention DS gets number 4 all over. It’s short but easy.

@3boysandabump Your sons have very smart hair. I think if DS grew his hair out it would go wild! Confused

My son has a floppy cut, long at the front, which looks lovely with his blonde hair but extremely high maintenance and requires being blow dried daily. He insists on scissor cut every three weeks. He really doesn't want a shorter easier cut, he thinks the floppy hair makes him look posh. If he doesn't groom his hair he look like Boris Johnstone, so that's often what it's looks like!

Used to be 1 on sides and back 4 on top. Now it’s a three sides and back and about an inch and a half on top which does require some product. He’s been going to the barber on his own since 12 or 13 and there have been a few surprises (and calls from school).

@Pipandmum Surprises??

I've left ds(15) to have conversations with the barber himself since he was 13. Until it starts growing out a bit he won't know what styles look best or are easiest to style for his hair.

I would suggest to him he says to the barber be wants to keep the sides short and grow the top out a bit and shape it/try some styles, maybe say if he wants it longer at front, high etc. Maybe show a picture of what he is aiming for. the barber should help him and advise if he should try any products and which will be best ie. Gel, wax, powder. Try to go to the same barber each time so they build up a rapor, let him go in himself when he is ready. It will take a few trips before it settles to a style he is happy with.

Graduated from number 1 to 2 on the back and sides, long and messy on top - along with every other teenage boy his age in our area.
A few of his mates have shaved their heads this summer and he was tempted for a while but went off the idea when I said it would take until Christmas to grow out!

My son is mixed race and has curly hair, he has a 0.5 on the back and sides to a mid fade and a scissors cut on top to keep length and show off his curls.
