Work experience attire!

Hi

DS has his work experience at a vets next week. The vets have said he should wear smart casual, so we're thinking polo shirt/short sleeved shirt, smart black slim jeans.. cannot work out shoes!

DH is feeling he can't wear trainers. I think he'd look ridiculous in his school shoes and jeans.

Any ideas? Any vets on here able to advise?!

DS is 15 and likes to be trendy..... Grin

Has he got anything that isn't obviously trainers? Like black converse? Or boots?

Plainish dark coloured trainers should be fine if he has them or converse

I don't think Jeans are appropriate for in the workplace. Chino type trousers would be much better, can wear with trainers if they aren't too sporty or some casual shoes if school shoes are too formal. He might be on his feet a lot so comfort is key. White sports type trainers are not appropriate though.

One of the good things about ds's school.is they allow black trainers ( completely black with no other colour including on soles ) so they are often used with black jeans for smarter family events by DS Hough he wears his orange and green Nike's everywhere else Hmm

I'd go with chinos, especially in the summer. I know that's not what you're asking but 'jeans' aren't smart casual for most workplaces. Shoes could be something like boat/deck shoes, suede coloured trainers?(if the sole isn't white), loafers/brogues/ brown trainers of some description, in my book, ideally.

Thanks everyone!

I'll go on a hunt for some chinos, he's got a pair of black trainers but they've got an orange decoration on the side. Quite smart looking ( as they're new) but not convinced they're good enough. He's going to have a chat with his tutor - who is WE coordinator- and it looks likely that he'll need to pop into the vets this week so I've suggested he wears the trainers he has and asks if suitable!

Has he had an interview?
All of my WE ( I am a vet) have to have an interview I convey H&S, confidentiality, hours breaks and suitable clothing at interview.
Smart top polo shirt/short sleeved shirt, clean not ripped jeans are okay with us and enclosed shoes so that toes don't get damaged.
I am the typical 40 something female vet, chinos, scrub top and trainers.

Thanks @Lonecatwithkitten ,

Funnily enough the vet nurse who has arranged the work experience, emailed yesterday to say could he come in for an informal interview this week. So his plan is to go wearing something that he'd wear next week and ask them if that's suitable

DS's WE, next week, is at a garden centre. Definitely trainers will be appropriate. :) Need to find some wellies his size, actually!
