Where to get a bikini

reluctantbrit · 08/06/2019 15:29

DD is just 12 but wears 14-15 size clothing/size XS or S or 6-8 depending on which store we go to. She is currently a 32A in M&S bras.

She is after a new bikini. She shows already curves, has some hips and definately proper breast.

Where can I go with her to try on bras which don't scream "senior teen on holiday clubbing"? Are the children section at M&S or Next still ok to fit or should I try my luck elsewhere. I would prefer a store so M&S/Next are out for children section but could order if that's a better idea.

At a size 6-8 there is no way she is a 32 back in a bra. Did M&S measure her?

What sort of bikini is she after? Crop top style, actual cup style?

Freshprincess · 08/06/2019 16:19

Have you looked in the women's section in M&S? I've got a few tankinis from there that you would consider 'modest'.

I'd also query a 32 back. I wear that and I'm a size 10/12.

dancemom · 08/06/2019 16:27

New Look teen range or Matalan teen range

Yy yo measuring her properly though, unlikely to be a 32A

reluctantbrit · 08/06/2019 18:06

Thanks. We tried a 30 backside but DD found it very uncomfortable and she wears bras with normal closing (M&S children range) since two years, so it wasn’t a case of new feelings.

I may have a good look at her, I am a GG cup so know a bit a out fitting and see what exactly the bra looks like.

Did you try a bigger cup in the 30 back? If she has proper breast tissue then she needs bigger than an A cup. My dd wears a 30E

dementedpixie · 08/06/2019 18:10

thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.com/p/fitting-advice.html?m=1 tells you how to measure if she will let you

dementedpixie · 08/06/2019 18:11

P.s an A cup means only 1 inch difference between under and over bust measurements

Nanalisa60 · 08/06/2019 18:14

New look teenager range has nice bikinis just look on there website

Rollergirl11 · 09/06/2019 14:36

My DD wears a 32B non-wired normal (not the teen range) M&S bra and she is size 4/6 in clothes. Why wouldn’t she be a 32 back? I wear 36B and I wear size 8/10. I guess we are both broad in the back.

With regards to bikinis, I order them online for DD and let her try them and send back the ones we don’t want. She has had some from Next (own brand and some Nike/Adidas), New Look and River Island (all online) in past years but is now branching out in to Hollister and Top Shop.

dementedpixie · 09/06/2019 14:39

I am size 20/22 and wear a 36 back bra so don't see how you could have the same back width at your dress size. Some retailers still add extra inches to the back size when measuring which gives a band that is too big and a cup that is too small.

What is your actual under bust measurement as that will be your bra back size?

freshstartnewme · 09/06/2019 14:48

I wear 36B and I wear size 8/10

That's massive for your size!

Ffsnosexallowed · 09/06/2019 14:50

Dd is size 8/10 and wears a 32 back. I'm size 20 and wear a 38

Rollergirl11 · 09/06/2019 14:54

It’s what I am I promise you! I’m probably more size 10 to 12 on top and 8 on the bottom but have always been 36 in the back. I do have a very broad back!

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 09/06/2019 15:06

Dd is a 6/8 and wears 28e - boux Avenue have nice bikinis
I'm a 32 back and like pp am a 10/12

Ypsilanti · 09/06/2019 15:13

Rollergirl, I’m willing to bet my house on you not having a 36 inch underbust measurement. If you’ve been measured at M&S then it’s more likely you’re 30 or 32.

I wear a size 10 in most tops and have a broad back - I measure 29 inches underbust and wear a 30E bra (I have very small boobs).

(Sorry, off-topic)

QforCucumber · 09/06/2019 15:15

At I'm a 10/12 and wear a 32g bra.

rollergirl have you ever taken a tape measure around your underbust? 10 and 12 tops just wouldn't fit if your back measured at 36 inches and your boobs at 38 inches

freshstartnewme · 09/06/2019 15:21

The idea that a broad back affects bra size but not clothes size is lost on me.

reluctantbrit · 10/06/2019 16:03

Ok, we just went clothes shopping, especially tops yesterday. We found that unfortunately sizes vary even in the same shop. We ended up with a T-shirt from H&M in S and in M, the M was cut very fitting, no idea who would fit in an XS they also sold. Zara is an XS but loose fit. Children H&M is still a 14+.

The T-shirt she got from a souvenir shop in Amsterdam is XL! OK, that was bought to last but still.

The Primark Harry Potter one is S, according to them that would be 10-12 but is actually smaller than the size 8 she uses as a sleep shirt from somewhere else..

In Decalthon she needed S for a top which I found quite cut small.

I checked her bra and she now wears it with the middle eye/hook thingy. Will check after the summer holidays when they are ready for replacement, I think she is up to a growthspur again.

Anyone else just wants to give up?

I think I will drag her around again for a bikini and just see what fits. As soon as my bank account recovered from yesterday.

M and s sizing is so off. If you have boux Avenue local to you try there. H and m sizing for clothes is awful. I just go with what fits. Sometimes it's a small other times a large. Just had a nose on the new look teens page and something like this might be nice www.newlook.com/uk/girls/clothing/swimwear/girls-pink-neon-floral-frill-bikini-set-/p/614383079?comp=Browse

BackwardsGoing · 10/06/2019 16:22

Clothes sizes are a frigging nightmare!

Decathlon does come up really small, I agree.

DD (11) found a bikini that fit by ordering loads off the internet and sending loads back. She searched sporty brands like Adidas in teen sizes which were much more age appropriate than small versions of adult bikinis.

I also found that teen sizes are also cheaper than those for small adults

PottyPotterer · 10/06/2019 16:28

There are loads of nice sporty crop top style bikinis around. I'm a 32E and get away with medium. Speedo and Adidas are good or Roxy. Quite a lot in the high street shops now too.

Fluffyunicorns · 11/06/2019 14:19

My daughter got some nice ones in Hollister - some were skimpy but some were crop top type with bigger bottoms. She is 14 and we have got things there for a couple of years now. The xs are small! Just dont try misguided or pretty little thing unless she wants to wear a nipple patch with a bit of string around her body

TeenTimesTwo · 11/06/2019 15:02

Placemarking to see where the OP ends up, as DD2 could do with a tankini top and I'm not paying Hollister prices!

Seeline · 11/06/2019 15:06

We've had success in the past with 9-15 range at New Look, Matalan and Sainsburys.

DD is 15 this year and wanted something that supported a bit better. We had success at Primark and M&S (who did tops in actual bra sizes with mix and match bottoms which worked really well).

NationalAnthem · 11/06/2019 20:30

We ordered loads from New Look and H&M and found something that wasn't too hideous.
