Growing

Can I ask when you girls stopped growing in height. DD is 14.5 and desperately wants to be taller as she was always the tall one in the class but has stopped at about 5 foot 4. Did any of your girls have a late growth spurt?

Growth normally slows with the onset of puberty, my DD is the same she want to grow but at 15 I think she has reached her height

Firefliess · 18/05/2019 09:43

Depends if she was a late or an early developer. Girls have their growth spurt just before they start their periods, then growth slows down so they only grow another two or three inches over the next could of years. DD was the same height as her best friend at 11, much taller at 12 as she hit puberty and the friend didn't. DD had finished growing by 14, but her best friend hadn't and is now 15.5 and much taller than DD.

A general rule of thumb (discounting any medical issues) is that girls will reach their adult height around 2 years after they start their periods

Both DD and I had both stopped growing taller by 13, having both started our periods at 12. She is 5'2", I am 5'9" Grin

Growth spurt...when did mine happen! I'm 5ft!

Ah, her period started 2 years ago so I think she has stopped then. It'll be a lot cheaper for clothes 😊

My daughter seemed to stop growing at about 14. I wouldn’t class her as short (5’3) but everyone seems so tall these days. Some of her friends are over 6 foot so she feels small! It got her down until a few months ago, when she got a boyfriend of similar height. Now she is happy with her height and doesn’t want to grow anymore :)

I just noticed my just turned 14 year old daughter is wearing the same clothes and shoes size as last year. No need to buy whole new summer wardrobe! She’s 5’7” (I was 5’11” in my prime) so surprised. But as She isn’t going to be a model that’s a good height.

Rollergirl11 · 23/05/2019 16:22

I am 5’3 and I class myself as short. DD has just turned 13 and is 5ft. I hope she grows a few more inches as she is definitely one of the smallest in her year. She started her periods about 4 months ago and already has the same size feet as me so I’m hopeful she will get a little bit taller.

MummyBear2352 · 23/05/2019 16:33

This happened to me, I was one of the tallest girls in the year when I went to secondary school. Then everyone over took me and I ended up being one of the smallest, I'm about 5"5 x

My dd grew to almost adult height in year 5. Only in sixth form did she add on another couple of inches. So now 5ft4.
Long time waiting for those last 2 inches!
