Is this a common teen girl thing? I have an almost 14 year old DD. Desperate to join some sort of drama group or musical theatre class, but will only go if a friend goes with her. First rehearsal today for hte school show, has just texted to say she doesn't want to go because none of her friends are going. Her choice of end of year trip has been purely dictated by what others want to do - this happened last year too, she went paintballing and hated it.

She has great social skills and out of my three kids is definitely the best at striking up conversations and making friends. I may have just texted her back reminding her that she cannot go through life only doing things that friends have already committed to.

I could've written this post! My 14 year old DD is the same. Stopped going to choir at school because 'no one goes' and only changed her mind about German exchange when a friend said she was going.

It's driving me mad, along with not wanting to do anything that doesn't involve her phone.

Not sure what the answer is. When I point out that she can't go through life only doing things her friends do, she just says 'you can't make me do anything I don't want to'.

Good to know I'm not alone!

There is a good thread with help do teen affect your mh
I would try and convince your dd to take part in school show she will make plenty off new friends there who might already attend drama and then she could attend drama with them. School shows are so much fun my dd just loves the stage does school shows and mtheatre shows outside school from her dance and sing class. She makes so many friends through this and has her school friends for socialising. Its best not just to have one group off friends.
