Paying for piercings

DD (17) wants 2nd piercing(s) which I'm totally fine with. She thought I would be paying - its 7.50 per ear + the cleaning stuff so about £20 ish. I don't remember promising to pay - I remember paying for the first ones but that's it.

She gets pocket money, additional money for extra chores which she usually does when she wants to buy clothes, plus she has some money (£300) saved from a part time job she had last year. So she could afford to pay herself, or I've suggested she could do a few extra chores.

I honestly don't think I promised to pay, she thinks I said I would. It's years since the subject even came up!

Teen now in a huff & says she won't bother. I'm now doubting my memory!

Anyway, do/did you pay for your teen's 1st / 2nd piercings? No idea what's "normal" with this 😶 TIA Smile

Of course she thinks you’re paying!

If she wants them, she can pay for them.

Or wait until her next birthday/Christmas and have them as part of her present?

My ds thought I'd transfer my Oyster card into his name today because he would use it more often than me,got the real arse ache when I said no. 🙄Teens chance their luck, she can save up and pay herself Grin

Personally I would pay as a treat.
I don't think everything has to come out of birthday money, be earned etc. Sometimes it's it's nice to pay for extras for your kids ( no matter how old they are as a ' just because' as we call them in our house.

It used to make me feel special when mum or dad did it for me as a teen!

I paid for my DD's first ear piercings for her birthday. Any other ear piercings (she now has several, including scaffolding!) she has paid for with pocket money, subsequent birthday/Christmas money. In all fairness she's been very good at keeping them clean. But I wouldn't be paying for her to have them done!

That's reassuring to hear!

She gets other treats - we've had quite a few West End theatre trips when I've paid for her & a friend/BF, which inevitably includes a meal somewhere, the occasional clothes shopping splurge (last time it was Pink & Victoria's Secret) & we're buying beer & snacks for her & friends who are having a sleepover on Saturday!

DameDiazepam - they certainly do chance their arm...! Thinking about it, DS isn't half as bloody cheeky as DD is. Is it a girl thing?

I would have offered to pay, I'm ok with giving.

PingPongBat · 04/04/2019 19:52

I'm ok with giving too namechange, but not all the time! She either assumed I'd pay, or honestly misunderstood me, or perhaps wasn't sure & thought she'd try her chances...
