Hi everyone,
my daughter (15) has always been quite shy but happy in primary school .
When she began secondary school she really struggled, she was isolated and bullied with not even a single friend. I then began to notice signs of anxiety which I put down to the bullying, after trying everything with the school we moved her to another school.
I brought her to the GP who suggested counselling but did not refer her to CAMHS. We tried counselling and CBT and nothing worked to relieve her anxiety. In the end we tried moving schools and homeschooling but the anxiety made her very unhappy in each situation.
So the situation we are in now is, she auditioned for a well known performing arts school in London and got a place, she is on her second term and the anxiety is still as bad as ever and the doctors still refused to refer her to CAMHS. So I paid for a private assessment with an adolescent psychiatrist who diagnosed her with Inattentive ADHD which was shocking for us but he said it could be the source of her anxiety.
Long story short, she travels on a train now everyday an hour each way and has started medication. She is completely exhausted and I am wondering whether I should move Monday to Friday to London to save her travelling or bring her closer to home and put her in a state school. The problem is she says she will regret leaving the performing arts school even though she hates it, and she will be sad if she has to stay there. She also admits she would hate any new school I put her in.
She is half way through year ten and we are all so confused as to what to do for the best.
Finally the docs are referring her to CAMHS but we know this will be a long process, she is dreading school on Monday and I feel lost. The psychiatrist I paid privately said send her to school and that it’s her anxiety that’s the problem.
So should I remove her from the school or move closer to the school myself to save her traveling mid week 😩
Any helpful tips please?
