Holiday for me & geeky 17 y/o dd this coming summer?

Asking as we had a fabulous time last summer at Nine Worlds Geekfest recommended to us on here (plus a trip to see Hamilton :) ). Sadly it's not happening this coming summer, so now looking to come up with an alternative.

I'm limited in how much holiday I can take over the summer, & neither of us fly, so realistically needs to be UK. London is easy for us to get to, as is anywhere on the Bristol/Bath/Cardiff/Swansea axis. We've done festivals in the past (Green Gathering / Buddhafield & the like) but DD has no interest in music, so now she's too old for teen areas they don't really work. Loads of outdoorsy stuff to do here where we live, so city probably better than countryside (given we can't manage a fortnight surfing in Portugal Grin )

Any suggestions wise MNers??? As she's unlikely to want to go away with me much longer, I'd like to do something nice :)

City break to Edinburgh?

Sadik · 17/02/2019 21:54

Scotland's too far I think - it's 11 hours to Edinburgh on the train & at least 9 hours drive

Otherwise the Festival would be a great call

You could do a UNESCO world heritage site holiday, see how many sites you could visit! There’s a good app for finding them all.

London film and comic con is in July. It's at Olympia. Loads of geeky stuff to do over a weekend. Plus maybe take in a different show in the evening?

Comic con also comes Cardiff, so I'm not sure if Olympia would be bigger & better, but worth a thought - I'll ask her.

Looking at UNESCO sites actually I'm wondering if a few days in Bath would be a good call, I suspect we'd find lots to do.

Just struck me too that she'll no doubt want to do various visits to uni open days in June, and maybe we could tack some holiday days on to those rather than one big summer trip. Depending where she wants to visit of course!

Would Edinburgh work if you took the sleeper train?
