Where do people buy underwear for young teenagers, apart from M&S or Primark?

My 14 year old buys all hers from Victoria secret/pink. 5 pairs for £25. She buys them with her birthday/Xmas money. While I use primark for myself 🙈

My daughter's assured me that most of her friends like to shop in Primark; she's at a boarding school so for many it won't be a financial issue , which makes me feel better about it being one of my first stops when looking for basics.

I'm still wondering why you have given cost as a factor and not fit? And what the relevance of the trip is regarding her underwear?

Aside from that my teens have underwear (and clothes) from lost of different places. They range from the weird thong things all the way through to full briefs granny style. Apparently they are the best under black leggings, dresses and Lycra skirts. The most important factor has to be fit though.

I am having problems getting bras for my dd who is just 14. She is very slender and remember reading that girls shouldn’t have wires, so there is nothing out there that fits, so I can’t advise on bras at all !
However for pants she chooses in M&S mainly, or I buy her things if I see something I know she will like. She has very nice briefs and a bralet from an underwear shop we sometimes get to visit, they came in tiny boxes, nice colours, she says v comfortable, will try and remember the brand name.
She also wears sloggi pants quite a bit.

The ones in tiny boxes I mentioned are by Blush. It seems they are a US brand though, so I don’t know of UK independant stockists.

My teens like Top Shop or New Look for knickers

Bralettes from Victoria’s Secret or Hollister (Gilly Hicks I think the name is)

Bras from New Look

Thank you all, that is really helpful. Smile

I knew nothing about the no wires for girls rule, @SirVixofVixHall. I will look into it. If you have any links I will be grateful.

M&s do some non wired bras in their Angel range. Dd was wearing a 30D but they don't do a bigger cup so I've had to order from the adult range. She measures 28E so I've ordered 28E and 30DD for her to try. It's very hard to get 28/30 back bras with no wires (Dd is 15)

So my flashing her knickers comment was a bit flippant but I am seriously interested how her knickers are going to be on show for others to see/judge and why she wouldn't just be wearing her regular underwear which presumably you buy from somewhere.

We've always had wires, once you get past a certain size you need them. I was under the impression it was one of those urban myths that you needed soft bras for young girls. Once you have reached a D cup, non-wired bras don't really do the job.

Yes, my dd has tiny ribs, she has a 22 inch waist, and so a 28 bra is roomy on her, a 30 is far too big. It is impossible to get anything to fit well.

2 DDs 13 and 14. Both wear bikini pants from M&S and really like them. They come in packs of 5.

I think the thing with wires is that the breast tissue is growing , so just as in pregnancy, the wires could damage it. Although I suppose if you kept a close eye on fit then it would be ok , but girls can have sudden growth spurts so soft stretchy bras allow for that.
m&S have softer, flexible wires in some bras in their girls range.
I agree that over a certain cup size it is hard to get a soft bra with enough structure or support. My dd isn’t very busty yet, but as her ribs are small she would probably need a dd cup with a 28 bra, or a 26E.

Dd has ended up with the 30DD in an underwired style. The soft cup one looked terrible.

DD is 21 and in her first professional job. She buys in Primark, it isn’t too cheap for her!

I do put five for £25 VS knickers in her Christmas stocking usually and this year a pack of M&S —period— boy shorts.

Uniqlo. Not the cheapest but fantastic quality.
Asda do very nice, pure cotton underwear. Plain or with simple designs.

My dd has Jack Wills and Hollister pants, I get multipacks in the sales and give them to her for Christmas. The Jack Wills are lovely quality (Hollister much less so).
She'd love Pink (from Victoria's secret)

'knew nothing about the no wires for girls rule'
Most have plastic 'wires' nowadays I was advised by a bra fitter not damaging at all.

Ours like Primark and Victorias Secret.

Rolling my eyes at the Hmm posts. It's a teen board on a parentng site. Not that outrageous to ask for advice? It's not as if the op was asking for in depth descriptions of breasts or anything.

Sloggi or Primark depending on how flush I am feeling.

In what way?

I have always hated wired bras. Tried for uears and years, different sizes, brands, fitters, interventions. Every one was as uncomfortable as the last. I did find one from Cacherel years and years ago which was tolerable, but they no longer make bras.

So I’ve worn sports bras for every day since my teens. I’ve always been a 34DD or larger, they’re supportive, i can run for a bus, and comfy.

So why must a wear a wired bra? If’s aesthetics I don’t give a shit. With clothes on how would you tell? My boobs stay in one place and sit in the right place on my chest. I don’t wear thin straps or clothes that show my bra.

Although even in my teen years i used to question why i was forcing myself into wired bras when i hated them. Answer is social expectation- women should wear frilly “attractive” underwear, not comfortable supportive garments. Mostly for the male gaze.

Anyway i shall not be telling any dd of mine to wear underwires. If they want to, fine, but I don’t see anything wrong with an equally supportive non wired bra.

I couldn't disagree more.

fair enough, wear whatever is comfortable to you, but for me, as G cup, only underwires are comfortable. They provide support for running for a bus, but also they sit well, don't put too much wieght on shoulders and are massively less bulky and hot than any non wired.

If this is why you wear underwires:
Answer is social expectation- women should wear frilly “attractive” underwear, not comfortable supportive garments. Mostly for the male gaze.

then I think you are shoppingin the wrong shops!

Different sizes and shapes find different things comfortable, you prefer non wired, I prefer wired, but please don't put this 'social expectation' and 'gaze of men' rubbish on to it.

and I have 2 dds, one loves the little light padded underwires, and the other hates them, she prefers a sports bra.

question for you for my dd, she is tiny, do Primark do 28 and 30 backs?

Surely most teens can wear adult underwear? My DD is 14 and a size 8 so buys her underwear in M&S or Sainsburys or whatever.
