Is it weed or something else?

I have noticed a couple of times a really horrible smell coming from young people smoking, it really seems to linger. I don't think it smells like weed or resin, it seems to have a much more oily smell. Anyway I have confronted my son about smelling of this previously and tonight in trying to help him find his wallet I found a tin with papers and empty wraps smelling of this substance. There was no tobacco in the tin, does anyone know what this is please? He says it is just weed, which I am obviously not happy about but I think it is something more chemical based.

It may be the new super potent strains of weed known as 'flavours' supposedly imported from the US. They have stupid names like gorilla glue and Girl Scout cookies and are incredibly smelly and not like the weed that was available in years gone by. They smell synthetic and sweet rather than herbal.

Julie . Well DS is currently upstairs throwing himself and stuff about. I'm not sure it is due to anger about losing his wallet or me calling him out on the drugs. I'm staying super calmish and have suggested he cancels his card and contacts the bus station about his bus pass.

So he doesn't know you have his wallet?

No I haven't got his wallet. He found that he had lost it this evening, I was just trying to help and try and find it. It has his bank card, bus pass and a fiver. He must of had it to get home on the bus last night, maybe he left it on the bus?

Wraps what like blunt wraps ? If he's using brown wraps he might not put fags in it however most teens do put fag in it maybe that's his emergency paper stash.

The 'wraps' are 2 little polythene bags, about the size to fit a £2 coin the type that you can seal up again. The residue looked more like caster sugar but a bit smaller. The papers are kingsize.

Small white residue powder + chemical (petrol?) Smell... Sounds more like cocaine and the papers are throwing you off?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but could be cocaine , I'm not sure if people smoke that I heard people smoke crack though I think you need a proper sit down with your son.
How are things today?

We have had some calm discussions and he has admitted it was skunk. He thought skunk and weed were the same thing, which is partly true as they come from the same plant. I asked about the lack of tobacco and he replied that as he doesn't smoke (cigarettes) he got some off others. When he was much younger he witnessed someone going through psychotic incidents which were brought on by drug misuse. I didn't explain it like that to him at the time as I thought he was a bit too young. I hope it has made him think. He is calm today and went to rugby training.

Cannabis use in teenagers massively increases the chance of developing schizophrenia (I know an 18yr old lad who's just been diagnosed, no family history of schizophrenia, but he's smoked weed for years)

skunk I went through this article with him which highlights the age range. Thanks all, I just hope he has taken it on board and I have 'nipped it in the bud'
