Really worried we’ve finally been called in for a meeting with the Education Welfare Officer as my son keeps truanting (he’s13).

I’ve tried everything from punishments to bribes. He just hates school and even if I can get him in to school, shortly afterwards he has left again.

I’m pretty sure there are no bullying issues, he is now behind with his work as he refuses to do any homework or catch up. He just says he’s bored all the time.

His attendance is now at below 70%. Has anyone been in a similar position? Anyone advise how I can prepare for this meeting or any words of advise?

TIA

Is he in mainstream or a behavioural school? By the sounds of it , I think the school needs to work with him and if so try pitting him in the behaviour unit if the school has one as he is able to get one to one tuition so they’re able to make it fun for him

Have they said when the meeting will be and what is the likely outcome?

Has you DS said why he doesn’t want to go?
