I was wondering if anyone has experienced death anxiety with their teenager? My neice has worried about this since the age of 10 and is now 15. She worries about dying but also what will happen to her after death. She text's me in the middle of the night saying she can't sleep due to constant thoughts about death. I'm struggling to find any books etc that would be useful for her. I would be grateful for any advice you can give me

Is it just dying like "I don't want to die, and what will happen??" or is it also "my finger might be broke it's going to kill me! "

I have health anxiety personally but have significantly improved with counselling, there aren't many books I've found around death and the fear of it but i'm sure there are some I'll have a look.
Has she sought any support from teachers or school nurses ect? :)

It’s really good that’s shes got you to talk to OP and she sings facing this alone. Have a read of this article on death anxiety in children. Could you take her out for a coffe and have a chat with her? I think I’d be encouraging her to see the GP and offering to go with her. I’d also encourage her to speak to her parents, again I’d offer to be there and encourage her to speak to the school. If she’s 15 she needs sleep and staying awake worrying may affect her GCSE results next summer.

If you live nearby, could you take up running or yoga together? A bit of Aunty bonding time and some exercise might help her to sleep and improve her mental health.

Could you treat her to this from Lush too? The Sleepy Cream really helps my DD Smile
