hi all
please be kind as I'm struggling with the whole dd might have sex thing :):) so my dd is 17 , few boyfriends in past nothing serious. Current bf ( imo ) a bit casual but apparently that's how it is , ie they don't really date , just meet up, occasional party, gig , others houses etc , they are at 6th form together tho but diff subjects, talk a lot , we have seen him but not met him. This will change ie will meet him :) Dd and I been talking about contraception , I 'm glad she's being mature about it and she feels it would be a good idea in the not to distant future to go on pill /implant - she's saying more just in case ! lol and yes we talked condoms too. I do agree its probably a good idea , but do have my concerns ie I don't want her to be" I can now so I will ! " I prefer the " just cos I can doesn't mean I will" . I was just wondering what others experience of this were and any advice thanks

I think you should trust your daughter. She’s being open and honest with you which is great and from what you say, she sounds like she has her head screwed on.

Things aren’t casual for all teens - just so you know that there are many who are in quite committed for their age relationships at this age. So your daughter might move in the circles she describes or she is just saying that to make you feel better. I would talk to her about what she would expect if she had casual sex and what the boy would expect afterwards. But it is certainly not the norm from the many teenagers I know - they get such a bad press these days.

I think it's great that she's so responsible and that she's discussing it with you xx
