Teenager phone messaging

Having just read a story about a 10 year old having nasty messages about her going round her ‘friends’, I’m worried I am too trusting of my dd (13). Do u look at phone messages or trust them to not keep secrets? I do chat to her about being open with me and to tell me if anything happens.

I’ve heard this joke a while back and is actually spot on:
-How do you know teenagers are lying?
-They’re lips are moving !

Never trust them completely, they have a tendency at this age to lie , not necessarily to upset you or because they hide something important but to save on aggravation and explanations, they can’t deal with the hassle at this age. So even if they say the truth, is only about half of it 👍 but they’re always feed you : you never trust me even if I tell you the truth so what’s the point?😂

Yes OP I do check - messages and social media not all the time just occasionally and with things like Snapchat it’s not always possible. It is mostly harmless teen stuff but I have come across ‘chats’ about a supposedly innocent sleepover where someone was planning on taking a alcohol. You never really know what is going on with teens.
