Whendid your DS stop growing?

Been chatting to a few colleagues about growth spurts in boys. My almost 16 yo seems to be having a second spurt whereas one colleague thinks her 15 yo is yet to have one. Another colleague says you get one spurt only and nothing after 16 yo (which shocked the former colleague). So out of interest what age did your DS stop growing in height?

My grandfather grew 2 inches between age 19 & 23 (Army records). Be afraid... be very afraid. Grin

RandomMess · 07/07/2018 18:46

DH stopped growing at 13 - he's 6'3"

JessyJames · 07/07/2018 18:53

I think boys can continue to grow until they are 21ish.
My DS doesn't really have growth spurts, he has slowly grown taller.
He's nearly 16 and is 6'3". I think his school year is made up of giants. There are several boys taller than him. The majority of the year below are much shorter.

TheOrigFV45 · 07/07/2018 19:20

Mine's 19 and he still hasn't finished. Just a little bit obv, but noticeable now he's at uni and I see him less frequently.

His appetite has settled down though.

derekthe1adyhamster · 07/07/2018 19:24

DS 1 grew the most between 15 & 16 ( and has a pigeon chest to prove it 😰) he's still slowly growing aged 18
DS2 is 15 and I'm awaiting the spurt but I think they slowly grow until about 21

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2018 19:27

Boys can keep growing until they are 21.

My three all had growth spurts at 14 and stretched a lot in a few months. Then they kept growing, but more slowly, for the next few years.

DS3 is almost 21 and I think he's stopped now, he's 6'3. His older brothers were around the same.

SoftBallSophie · 07/07/2018 19:31

DS17 is still growing, has a huge appetite. Every time he takes an item of clothing out to wear he's outgrown it.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 07/07/2018 19:32

I didn't see DS1 stop growing, as we were NC, my cousin was still growing at 23 though.

user1471451866 · 07/07/2018 19:35

Still growing at 19

MyAuntyBadger · 07/07/2018 19:43

Ds stopped at about 16, went from 5'8" to 6'2" during the previous year and his appetite was ridiculous. He also has a slight pigeon chest, is that related to a growth spurt derek?

ThreeFish · 07/07/2018 19:46

My DS is 17, and currently going through a growth spurt. Work trousers suddenly up at his ankles and even tesco couldn’t keep enough food in to feed him 😄

JustDanceAddict · 07/07/2018 19:46

DS is 14 and growing like a weed. He’s a lanky bugger - 10-11 in shoes and 5ft9. He’s the tallest among his group of friends although there are a few 6 footers in his year.

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/07/2018 20:00

DS1was 20
DS2 is slowing down but has definitely grown in the last 6 months aged 17

bruffin · 07/07/2018 20:03

Ds 22 was 13 and stopped at 6ft

Eve · 07/07/2018 20:04

Mine had biggest growth spurts in year 11... age 15/16. DS2 has gone from 5ft to 5ft 9 in just over a year and still growing.

He outgrew his prom suit in 6 weeks (just about squeezed into it last night)

HumpHumpWhale · 07/07/2018 20:05

Not my DS, but my brother was 6'1" at 14 and we all thought he was finished growing. Spurt at 16 got him to 6'3", albnd then between 18 & 20 he grew another 2 inches. He's broad, too.

DialsMavis · 07/07/2018 20:07

Mine is 15 and 6ft but the tallest person on either side of his family is 5ft 9 so assume he will stop soon!

frasier · 07/07/2018 20:09

I was taught age 22 in Human Biology
at school!

Kochkor · 07/07/2018 20:13

DS seems to have stopped growing upwards (20 yrs ) but every time h e comes home, he seems to have got broader

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 07/07/2018 20:17

DM, who brought DS1 up for most of his childhood, believes the textbooks literally, that all children stop growing at 18. Hmm He had a growth spurt between 10 and 12.

dementedma · 07/07/2018 20:22

This is not good news. I had hoped ds had stopped at 16 but is sounds like there is more to come. How much bigger can he get????

Scabetty · 07/07/2018 20:35

22! Shock

My ds is 14 next month. He has a massive growth spurt over a year and literally grew about 4/5 inches. He's now 5"7 is hand size 7 shoe.

It caused him all sorts of problems as he has mild CP.

I'm hoping he'll grow more steadily now and I've no idea how tall he'll get. My dads 6"3, brother 6" and has late growth spurt at 17 and his dad is 5"10. We are the same height atm 😊

RandomMess · 07/07/2018 20:55

It is genetics, males can grow up to age 22, females around 18.

DH family they all stopped very young, my family late. DC are proving to be a mix!

Poor DS. Acne and pigeon chest has not made for a self assured teen!
