So I was just wondering how accurate these tests actually are??? My DD(14) has just been assessed for dyslexia and we have found out that her difficulties are caused by this but I find it hilarious that these so called CAT's tests which are supposed to pick up on things like this fail to pick up on it... this isn't even the first I've heard of this happening.. anyone else same problem???

I don't think CATs are meant to pick up things like dyslexia, are they?

iirc they check maths, verbal reasoning and spatial ability(?).

They might pick up if someone has a very uneven profile, but otherwise they are just giving a general feel aren't they?

I know DDs school uses them to get a handle on a new cohort. They can predict 5 years ahead whether their GCSE results are likely to be particularly good or not. They are very clear though that they don't predict results for individuals, and that attitude and hard work are more influential.

Yes I suppose as she has had quite high predicted grades that even if there was a irregularity in the results that they wouldn't of said anything unless it was major
